Attaching the Post Coupling,
Horizontal Bar, and Ring
NOTE: For convenience and correct orientation
of the ring, it is recommended that this procedure
be performed after the skin incision has been made.
However, this procedure may be performed at any time.
Slide the horizontal bar into either of the holes
in the post coupling. Slide the post coupling and
horizontal bar assembly over the top of the vertical
post, to its approximate location, and lightly tighten
the coupling. The position of the post coupling lever
on the vertical post should be convenient to the
surgeon. Make any final positioning adjustments
before tightening the post coupling (Figure 6).
Center the ring over the operative site and adjust
the post coupling to obtain the desired position.
Hold the ring in position while locking in place,
as shown in Figure 7. Make any final positioning
adjustments with the ring attached over the wound.
If it is still necessary to reposition the post coupling,
make sure the serrated teeth are disengaged fully
before rotating the side with the horizontal bar.
CAUTION: The post coupling bolts never should
be tightened unless the post coupling is attached
to the bars. The slight deformity of the circular
opening that might result could affect the smooth
fit between the post coupling and the bars.
With the segmented ring, to remove or adjust a ring
segment, turn the locking screw counterclockwise until
the serrated teeth of the fittings disengage. Adjust the
segment as required and retighten the locking screw.
CAUTION: Before fully tightening locking screw,
be certain that the serrated teeth of the ring
segment fittings mesh. Failure to do so may
damage the fittings.
To remove the screw from a ring segment for
cleaning, pull the screw through the fitting until
it engages the threads. Unscrew and remove
by turning counterclockwise.
Adjusting the Angle of the Ring
To adjust the angle of the ring when using the
horizontal flex bar, release the universal joint lever
on the horizontal flex bar (Figure 8) by turning the
lever counterclockwise. Relaxing the universal joint
assembly results in a variety of positioning options.
Retighten the lever by turning clockwise.
Attaching the Retractor Blades
1. Place a ratchet mechanism onto a retractor blade.
NOTE: The ratchet mechanisms are designed
to fit on any retractor blade.
169587-001-P
2. Connect the ratchet mechanism onto the ring,
as shown in Figure 9. To adjust the blade, press
in the ratchet release and then push or pull the
retractor to the desired setting.
Using the Tilt Ratchet Mechanism
To use the lifting capability of the tilt ratchet
mechanism, simply depress the thumb lever to adjust
the elevation for increased exposure (Figure 10).

CAUTION: If the instruments are flash autoclaved,
take special care to cool off the vertical table post,
horizontal flex bar and post coupling with sterile,
distilled water. These items will retain heat and
require cooling before assembly.
CAUTION: To ensure proper function do not lubricate
