7. TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM
1.    W ith the key on «ON», the light
stays off
2.    W ith the ignition key turned to
«START» the light flashes and
the starter motor does not run
3.    W ith the key on «START» the
light comes on but the starter
motor does not run
4.    W ith the ignition key turned to
«START» the starter motor runs
but the engine does not start
5.    S tarting is difficult or the engine
runs erratically
6.    W eak engine performance
during cutting
7.    T he engine stops while working
and the lamp flashes
8.    T he engine stops and the light
goes off
9.    T he engine stops but the light
stays on
10.    T he cutting means do not
engage or do not stop promptly
when they are disengaged
LIKELY CAUSE
The safety device of the electronic
circuit board has cut in due to:
–  badly connected battery
–  battery terminals crossed
–  badly earthed
–  flat battery
–  blown fuse
–  wet circuit board
–    s tarting conditions have not
been met
–    i nsufficiently charged battery
–    b attery charger fuse blown
–    m alfunction on the starter relay
–    i nsufficiently charged battery
–    f aulty fuel supply
–    f aulty ignition
–    f aulty carburetion
–    f orward speed too high in relation
to cutting height
The safety device of the electronic
circuit board has cut in due to:
–    t he safety devices have cut in
The safety device of the electronic
circuit board has cut in due to:
–    fl at battery
–    o vervoltage caused by the
charge regulator
–    b adly connected battery
(poor contact)
–    p roblems in the engine

SOLUTION
Turn the ignition key to the «STOP»
position and look for the cause of
the problem:
–    c heck connections (see 3.2)
–    c heck connections (see 3.2)
–    c heck connections (see 3.2)
–    r echarge the battery  (see 6.3.3)
–    r eplace the fuse (10 A) (see 6.4.4)
–  dry using luke warm air
–    c heck that all starting conditions
are met  (see 5.2.a)
–    r echarge the battery (see 6.3.3)
–    r eplace the fuse (25 A)
(see 6.4.4)
–    c ontact your Dealer
–    r echarge the battery  (see 6.3.3)
–    c heck the level in the tank
(see 5.3.3)
–    o pen the fuel stopcock  (if fitted)
(see 5.4.1)
–    c heck the fuel filter
–    c heck that spark plug cap is
securely fitted
–    c heck that the electrodes are
clean and have the correct gap
between them
–    c lean or replace the air filter
–    fl ush out the float chamber
–    e mpty the fuel tank and refill with
fresh fuel
–    c heck and replace the fuel filter if
necessary
–    r educe the forward speed and/or
raise the cutting height
(see 5.4.5)
Turn the ignition key to «STOP»
and look for the cause of the
problem:
–    c heck that all starting conditions
are met  (see 5.2.b)
Turn the ignition key to «STOP»
and look for the cause of the
problem:
–    r echarge the battery  (see 6.3.3)
–    c ontact a Licensed Service
Centre
–    c heck battery connections
(see 3.2)
–    c ontact a Licensed Service
Centre
–    c ontact your Dealer
