Drive Mechanism
4. Notes on Assembling the Drive Mechanism
4.1 Top of the Drive Mechanism
– Fit the reverse drive lever (Pos. 20, Fig. 22).
– Insert the reverse guide spring (Pos. 29, Fig. 29).
– Fit the reverse guide lever (Pos. 19) as shown in Fig. 23 and set it
with the height adjustment nut (Pos. 214) to 13.38mm (Fig. 24).
– Check the drive mechanism in "tape unthreaded" mode: the semi-
circular groove of the pinch roller drive lever (Pos. 11) must be above
the groove of the mechanism chassis (Fig. 23). If necessary, adjust
the drive mechanism in this mode, e.g. by turning the loading motor
driver (Pos. 47, Fig. 4) by means of a screwdriver.
– Insert the pinch roller cam wheel (Pos. 41, Fig. 23) so that its
semicircular cutout is above the round recess of the pinch roller cam
wheel E (Pos. 11)
– Secure the pinch roller cam wheel (Pos. 41) with the securing ring
(Pos. 216, Fig. 22)).
– Insert the pinch roller unit so that the cutout of the plastic lever (Pos.
18) engages with the guide of the pinch roller cam wheel (Pos. 41)
(Fig. 16).
– Check the tape path (point 5.8).

4.2 Bottom of the Drive Mechanism
– Preparation: Turn the reel brakes (Pos. 24 / 25) in the direction of the
arrows (Fig. 18) until it is possible to remove them and do so.
– Move the levers and gearwheels to their stop positions as shown by
the arrows in Fig. 25.
– Put the slider (Pos. 27) on to the shafts X Y Z as shown in Fig. 25.

– Turn the cassette compartment drive gear (Pos. 38, Fig. 4) to its left
stop position.
– Move the pinch roller drive lever (Pos. 11) and the slider (Pos. 27)
in the direction of the arrows (Fig. 26) to their stop positions.
– Insert and turn the master cam (Pos. 37) clockwise so that the big
tooth engages with the big space of the cassette compartment drive
gear (Pos. 38, Fig. 26).
– Secure the master cam (Pos. 37) with the securing ring (Pos. 208)
(Fig. 26).
– Insert the slow brake (Pos. 21), the clutch lever (Pos. 23) and the
limiter pulley (Pos. 48) (Fig. 2).
– Secure the limiter pulley (Pos. 48) with the securing ring (Pos. 216).
– Put on the reel belt (Pos. 34).
– Install the reel brakes (Pos. 24 / 25).

5. Adjustments
5.1 Adjusting the Brake Band
– Dismantle the cassette compartment (point 3.1) and observe the
notes on operating the drive mechanism without cassette compart-
ment (point 3.1.1).
– Play back Cassette E180 from the start of the tape in Standard Play
mode.
– Adjust the tension pole adjuster (Pos. 50) so that the tension arm
(Pos. 15) just reaches the mark on the mechanism chassis (Fig. 27).

5.2 Adjusting the Tape Tension
– Dismantle the cassette compartment (point 3.1) and observe the
notes on operating the drive mechanism without cassette compart-
ment (point 3.1.1).
– Play back the torque cassette meter in Standard Play mode.
– By changing the hook-on position of the tension spring (Pos. 33, Fig.
27) set
the brake force of the supply reel to 3.6...5.2mNm
(36.5...52gcm).
5.3 Adjusting the Reel Torque in Rewind Mode
– Dismantle the cassette compartment (point 3.1) and observe the
notes on operating the drive mechanism without cassette compart-
ment (point 3.1.1).
– Put the torque meter with adapter on to the supply or take-up reel and
set it to 0.
– Press button Ì for checking the take-up reel or button Ï for
checking the supply reel. When the pinch roller starts to turn, turn the
reel which does not rotate until the drive mechanism automatically
moves the pinch roller away from the capstan.
– When carrying out this measurement, turn the torque meter in the
reel's sense of rotation (one turn every 2-3 seconds).
