Installation and connection (continued)
Connecting the transducer to analog inputs
To reduce interference, shielded cables must be used and
the shield on the analog cables grounded at both ends. If
there are any differences in potential between the cable
ends, install a low-impedance potential equalization. This
prevents equalizing currents that will interfere with the
signals from flowing over the shield.
Also note the general information on connecting
transducers.
The following transducers can be connected to the analog
inputs, depending on the type of measurement used:
Sensor as a current sensor
As a 2-wire current sensor (BTL5-H1E...)
As a 3-wire current sensor (BTL5-H1C...)
Sensor as a voltage sensor (BTL5-H1A...)
The following cable must be used to connect current or
voltage sensors:
BKS-S75-TB4-05-PU-00,05/02/02
(see Accessories, page 20)
The connection assignments are shown in Tab. 4-4 and
Fig. 4-10.

Connecting a current sensor
Sensors with 4 to 20 mA current output are usually
connected using the two-wire technique. In this case, the
electronics in the sensor are supplied with the minimum
current (4 mA). Detection of a current below the minimum
current of 4 mA can be used to recognize a wire break.

Sensors with 0 to 20 mA current output are usually
connected using the three-wire technique. The great
advantage of this type of current transfer is that it is not
susceptible to changing resistances in the supply, such as
found in a cable or plug.
The sensor is usually supplied with 24 V. Via an internal
resistor, the BTL input converts the current into a voltage
again that is amplified accordingly.
