Problem
Pump delivers only on the up-stroke
or travels downwards quickly and
upwards slowly.
Pump delivers only on the up-stroke,
travels upwards quickly and down-
wards slowly.
Pump travels upwards quickly and
delivers no material when travelling
downwards.
If the gun is off and the piston
travels upwards and downward too
slowly:
Probable cause
The lower inlet valve does not seal
on account of contamination and/or
wear.
The material is too highly viscous
for the suction system. Leaky suc-
tion system.
The upper inlet valve does not seal
on account of contamination and/or
wear. The lower packings are worn.
Material container is empty or ma-
terial is too highly viscous to flow
through the suction pipe. The inlet
valve is stuck in the valve seat.
Leaky screw connections.
The circulation valve does not close
or is worn.
The upper or lower ball is not sitting
correctly.
The lower packing is worn.

Remedy
Clean these components and check
them for damage. Place inlet valve
in the seat and check for tightness
by filling with water. If the ball in
the seat fails to seal, then the ball
or the seat must be changed, if ne-
cessary both components.
Thin the material
Check the upper seat and the ball
for damage using water (see abo-
ve). If the ball fails to seal the seat,
exchange damaged components.
Replace the packings.
Fill the material container. Thin if
material is too highly viscous. Open
the circulation valve to allow any
air to escape. Dismantle the inlet
valve. Clean valve and seat.
Check all connections for leaks bet-
ween pump and gun.
Close circulation valve. If material is
still exiting, check valve for dama-
ge If none of the above-mentioned
possibilities apply, replace the lower
packing.
