3. LOCATING THE SYSTEM COMPONENTS
When locating the system components in the rooms which are to be safeguarded, please
observe the following:
Do not install the control unit in a location where an intruder can enter the safeguarded zone
unnoticed. This avoids the control unit being immediately recognised and switched off by the
intruder.
To ensure aimed alarming you can give a neighbour the control unit when you leave the
house. The neighbour need only plug-in the control unit anywhere in his apartment, and all
irregularities that occur in your house will be indicated.
The location of the "motion detector" requires special attention.
To achieve the best results from the motion detector, locate it in the room in such a way, that
the intruder passes through the detection zone (and does not walk straight towards the motion
detector).
The detection zone covers max. 140 degrees horizontally, and a distance of approx. 7 meters
and the characteristic of one level with 3cm has height. Do not place any obstructions (cupbo-
ards, tables, chairs etc.) in front of the motion detector which may then hinder its capability to
register movement.
Avoid false alarms by not directing the motion detector towards windows, open fireplaces, ven-
tilation shafts or other heat sources, as the detector reacts upon sudden temperature changes.
This is the reason why the alarm is also triggered by pets.
You can test the detection zone of the motion detector by means of the yellow LED "active".
This LED illuminates as soon as the detector detects movement.
Use an extension lead, if there is not a convenient socket in the required location for the
system components. This is then also monitored by the STECOM-Alarm-System against mani-
pulation and tampering. An adjustable bracket is also available, so that system components -
mainly the motion detector - can be mounted on a level surface and then positioned at an
angle or positioned on the wall and then turned in any direction.
Try to position the switching sockets as near as possible to the electrical appliance or light
source which is to be switched on/off, as the connecting leads of these units are not monitored
by the STECOM-Alarm-System against manipulation.
