10. FAQ, causes, and measures relating to the GROOVER 500-LP
The cut groove is not positioned centrally in relation to the butt joint:
• Check the thickness (2.6 mm) of the cutter blade. Important: Only original Leister cutter blades may be used.
• Check the alignment of the guide and rear guide rollers.
The depth of the cut groove varies:
• Apply even contact pressure during grooving.
The life of the cutter blade is greatly reduced:
• Flooring manufacturers include additives to influence the properties of the floor. These can have
a detrimental effect on the life of the cutter blade. When cutting grooves in safety floor coverings, we recom-
mend using a PCD cutter blade.
The unit is blocked:
• Check the groove depth setting. If the groove depth is too deep, adhesive residues can accumulate on the
housing and at the ejector tube, thereby causing chip buildup.
• Reduce the feed rate.
• Check that the air inlet slots in the cover plate (21) are clear, particularly during
grooving.
• Clean and maintain the unit regularly.
The cutter blade is jammed:
• If the cutter blade jams or if you interrupt your work, switch the grooving machine off and calmly hold the unit
in the workpiece until the cutter blade comes to a standstill. Never attempt to pull the grooving machine out of
the workpiece while the cutter blade is still moving; otherwise, there is a risk of recoil.
Identify the cause of jamming and resolve it. If you continue cutting an existing groove subsequently, make
sure that the cutter blade is centered in the groove.
• Check that the cutter blade has been fitted correctly (particularly the direction of rotation).
Unit recoil:
Recoil is a sudden response that occurs when a cutter blade gets caught, jammed, or is incorrectly aligned. It re-
sults in a loss of control and causes the grooving machine to lift up out of the workpiece and move in the direction
of the operator.
Recoil is the result of incorrect use or misuse of the grooving machine. It can be prevented by taking appropriate
preventive safety measures, such as those described below.
• Hold the grooving machine firmly with both hands and position your arms so that you are able to absorb the
recoil forces. Always position yourself to one side of the cutter blade and never so that the cutter blade is in
line with your body.
• Do not use dull or damaged cutter blades. Cutter blades with dull or incorrectly aligned teeth lead to increased
friction, jamming of the cutter blade, and recoil because the cutting gap is too narrow.
• It is absolutely essential to follow the correct start-up procedure.
• Check that the cutter blade has been fitted correctly (particularly the direction of rotation).
• Clean and maintain the unit regularly.
