- When cutting timber, use secure cutting support (preferably a
saw buck) the wood should never be held down by foot or by
another person.
- Round logs are to be blocked from rotating into the cut.
In case of cutting wood under tension, always:
1. First cut a relief cut into the pressure side.
CAUTION! DANGER OF PINCHING BAR!
2. Next, carefully cut into the tension side.
Note: Large logs or trunks are under strong tension, position
cuts sideways.

DANGER! Tree will arc upwards.

DANGER! Trunk kicks extremely fast in an arc and
forcefully away. Watch for falling back or „sitting
back" of root ball towards you.

DANGER! Trunk breaks out sideways.
Note: If trunk is under sidewise tension, always position yourself
on the pressure side.
Avoid pinching the chain saw.
If the wood is not to split, make a „relief cut". Make this cut
opposite the tension side, then finish by cutting from the tension
side.(fig.27)
If saw becomes pinched in cut, immediately shut off engine!
Move wood, log or trunk into another position using a bar or
other level.

LIMBING

BASIC RULES

The danger of kick-back is most prevalent during limbing.
- When limbing, rest your chain saw on the log as much as
possible. Do not cut with the bar nose - there is danger of kick-
back (fig.28).
- Watch particularly for branches under tension. Do not under
cut free hanging branches.
- Do not stand on a log while limbing.
- Remove obstructing branches.
- Nervous, hasty cutting is to be avoided.
- Use any possibilities to create favorable and elevated cutting
supports (such as saw buck or work bench).
- Always lock left thumb under handle bar.
If you change position, the guide bar must always
be on the side of the tree opposite to you. (fig.29)
Prior to cutting, always observe the movement of the tree trunk
and the branches. Work with foresight and be cautious at all
times.
When limbing strong deciduous wood, follow these correct steps
to prevent pinching the chain saw:
1. Remove obstructing branches.
2. Cut off branches which are under or create tension conditions.
3. Cut main branch and watch pressure side 1 and tension side 2
(fig.30)

SAFETY DURING START-UP OPERATIONS
- Be sure there are no children or other non-essential people
within the work range of the chain saw. Watch out for animals
(fig.31).
- Operate a chain saw only after it has been completely
and correctly assembled. As a rule, the chain saw should always
be completely assembled prior to operation!
- The bar cover (Scabbard) must be removed!
- Maintain a minimum distance of 10 ft. (3 meters) from the
refueling point for starting (fig.22).
- The operator must assume a steady stance before starting the
chain saw.
- Prior to starting the chain saw, support and hold it firmly. Guide
bar and chain must be clearly free of
WARNING! The chain continues to rotate a short
while after engine has been shut off (idling effect).
STARTING
Note: Starting procedure with SOLO half throttle system is
covered in the applicable model owner's manual.
COLD ENGINE STARTS (fig.35)
1. Switch stop switch (ignition switch) to position „I" (A).
2. Close choke (B) fully.
3. Depress throttle lock lever (C).
4. Apply full throttle (D).
5. Push in throttle lock button* (if applicable) (E).
This locks throttle control lever into start position,
engage chain brake to „ON" position by moving
hand guard/brake lever forward (into direction of bar nose).
6. STARTING SEQUENCE (FIG. 33)
Place chain saw on level ground, holding it down with one foot
in the rear handlebar and firmly holding front handlebar with
the other hand.
7. Pull starter grip slowly up until initial resistance is felt. Then
pull up firmly and quickly. Do not allow starter grip to slam back
but rather guide it vertically back into its resting position.
8. If the motor „tries" to start (fires), open choke (B)
(choke off). Repeat starting sequence with open choke.
9. Briefly apply full throttle and release to increase engine RPM
to idle speed.
CAUTION! The engine must be throttled
back to idle speed immediately after
starting, otherwise, damage to the chain
brake system will result. Now disengage
chain brake (off) by moving hand guard/brake lever
back toward handlebar. Note: You should hear an audible „click".
WARM ENGINE STARTS
Follow cold start procedure, but keep choke open.
