5. Generalinformation
5.1 G eneralinformationconcerningtheinsulationmeasuringinstrument.
5.1.1
T he digital display for the measurement readings is a 3½ - digit liquid
crystal display with decimal point. The height of the displayed digits is
11 mm. The largest numerical value which can be displayed is 2000.
5.1.2 T he polarity indication is automatic. Only one polarity with respect to
the socket marked " - " is indicated.
5.1.3
T he bargraph display consists of 63 segments and depicts resistance
readings on a logarithmic scale and voltage readings on a linear scale.
5.1.4
T he digital display for the test voltage is a 3½ digit liquid crystal
display with 8 mm high numerals. The largest value which can be
displayed is 2000.
5.1.5
R ange overflow of the digital display is indicated with the symbol ">".
5.1.6
T he BENNING IT 100 has an automatic measuring range selection
function (autoranging).
5.1.7
T he
button permits activation and deactivation of the buzzer
(switch setting: ).
5.1.8
T he
button (lock) permits continuous measurements of insula-
tion resistance and low resistance without having to press the
button repeatedly or to hold it in the pressed state. To switch over for
continuous measurements, press and hold the
then press the button at the same time and thereafter release both
buttons. The locked symbol ( ) appears in the display. When meas-
uring insulation resistance, pressing the button continually applies
the test voltage to the measuring point. An acoustic signal sounds at
intervals of 2 seconds. When measuring low resistance, pressing the
button continually applies the test current to the measuring point.
The locked state can be terminated by pressing the button or the
button.

5.1.9 T he button permits compensation (zero adjustment) of the resist-
ance of the measuring cables for making low resistance measure-
ments.
5.1.10 T he button switches on the display illumination. Press the button
again to switch off the illumination.

resistance and low resistance.
5.1.12 T he BENNING IT 100 is switched on and off with the rotary switch. The
off setting is "0".
5.1.13 T he BENNING IT 100 switches itself off automatically after about
10 minutes. In locked mode ( ) (continuous measurements) automatic
switch off takes place after 30 minutes. The instrument switches itself
on again automatically when a button is actuated, or the measuring
range selector switch is turned, or a voltage as from 30 V AC/ DC is
connected to the input of the instrument.
5.1.14 T he BENNING IT 100 is powered by six 1.5 V Mignon monocells (IEC/
DIN R6/ LR6).
