reaction gases into solution, the decomposition vessel should be completely sub-
merged in the water bath for about 5 minutes.
If the red signal lamp illuminates during ignition, the ignition wire is defective.
If the current is too high, the fuse on the rear of the unit will trip out. After about one
minute, the fuse can be reset by gentle finger pressure. The unit is then ready for
use again.

When venting the decomposition vessel, make sure that combustion gases
cannot escape into the room.
On completion of a test, the decomposition vessel must be vented. Venting can be
carried out using the ventilation grip, which is included in the scope of supply, or with
the Venting Station C 7030 (accessory). Depending on the sample composition,
venting the combustion gases without absorption can yield low values for halogen
and sulphur content. For quantitative decomposition, it is therefore essential to pass
the combustion gases through an absorption solution. In these cases, venting
should be carried out using Venting Station C 7030.
Venting the decomposition vessel
While the decomposition vessel is still under pressure, it should be shaken gently to
aid absorption of the residual gases; a homogeneous distribution of the substance to
be analysed and the condensate in the liquid phase is a prerequisite for the subse-
quent analysis.

Venting with the venting grip
Place the venting grip on the decomposition vessel and lock it by turning it anti-
clockwise. Vent the vessel in a fume cupboard by pressing the knob.
