Contraindications
TRACOE humid assist products must not be used in patients with
heavy production of mucus in the airways, very viscous respira-
tory secretion or haemoptysis (coughing of blood) or in uncon-
scious patients. They should also not be used in combination with
external humidifiers or nebulisers.
TRACOE humid assist heat & moisture exchangers should be
used within the recommended tidal volume range (see perfor-
mance table on page 68 of the appendix), in order to prevent car-
bon dioxide accumulation, if the tidal volume is low, or insufficient
moisturisation, if the tidal volume is too high.

Use
If the occlusion cap or oxygen connection / port is missing from
the unopened packaging or if the occlusion cap is lying loosely
in the packaging, the product must be disposed of and replaced
by another product.
REF 640-CT, REF 641, REF 642 and REF 643 are fitted to the
15 mm connector of a tracheostomy tube or endotracheal tube.
A firm connection must be ensured. If an additional oxygen sup-
ply is necessary, the oxygen supply port should be connected
to an oxygen source. For REF 641, the oxygen supply port is an
optional extra and may be fitted as required to the underside of
the heat & moisture exchanger, after removing the occlusion cap.
The maximum period of use for the heat & moisture exchanger is
24 hours. It should be replaced more frequently, if necessary.

Warnings
1.
All TRACOE humid assist products are for single use only
and must not be cleaned, disinfected, resterilised or reused, as
this would permanently impair their function.
2.
If a heat & moisture exchanger element becomes dis-
placed within the housing, for example, as a result of coughing
or during transportation, the product must be removed and re-
placed with a new one. On no account should any attempt be
made to replace the displaced element.
3.
Should the patient show heavy production of secretion or
severe bleeding, this may result in blocking of the heat & mois-
ture exchanger element. If there are signs of blockage, the heat
& moisture exchanger should be removed immediately and re-
placed with a new one. On no account should any attempt be
made to remove the blockage or clean the product. This can
damage the heat & moisture exchanger element and lead to a
considerable increase in respiratory resistance.
