6. (Dis)Mounting procedures for shaft no.1

6.1 Mounting bearing 22320 EK/C3 on shaft no. 1

using the SKF Drive-up Method

During drive up the original radial clearance of the bearing is reduced. The preferred,
easiest and best way of mounting SKF spherical roller and CARB bearings is with the help
of the SKF Drive-up Method. Download the SKF Drive-up Method application from
skf.com. Using the Drive-up calculator select the bearing and determine the correct
starting pressure and drive-up distance.
Lightly oil all mating surfaces with a thin oil e.g. SKF LHMF 300 and carefully put the
bearing on the shaft. Rotate the outer ring a few times to allow the rollers to assume their
correct positions. Screw the hydraulic nut on the shaft, with the piston facing the bearing,
until the piston is touching the bearing inner ring.
Drive the bearing up to the starting position by pumping oil in to the HMV 20E nut until
the calculated pressure is achieved. Monitor the pressure by the gauge on the
SKF Hydraulic Pump 729124 DU. Then drive the bearing up the taper to the required
distance from the axial drive-up starting position. This is monitored by the SKF Dial
Indicator TMCD 5P, which can be put into the hole of the HMV E-nut.
When the required distance is achieved then stop pumping and open the pump release
valve. Return the piston of the hydraulic nut by rotating the nut clockwise on the shaft.
The oil will low back into the pump and the piston will be retracted. Remove the hydraulic
nut after mounting and it the locking washer and screw on the lock nut.
Note: If you have not downloaded the SKF Drive-up Method desktop application, then
the values to be used for the mounting the 22320 EK/C3 are as follows:
