watchful observation of the field's requirements, innovation and steady
development Busch delivers modern vacuum and pressure solutions
worldwide.
These operating instructions contain information for
product description,
security,
installation and commissioning,
maintenance,
of the vacuum pump.
For the purpose of these instructions, "handling" the vacuum system
means the installation, commissioning, influence on operating
conditions and maintenance of the vacuum system.
Prior to handling the vacuum system, these operating instructions
shall be read and understood. If anything remains to be clarified
please contact your Busch representative!
Keep these operating instructions and, if applicable, other pertinent
operating instructions available on site.
Please keep the documentation for further reference.

Description

CAUTION
The indications noted in this chapter replace the indications of the
standard installation and operating manuals!

Area of application

The COBRA NC 0100 ¼ 0300 B vacuum pumps are certified for
drawing explosive gas and vapour mixtures of zone 1 and of gaz group
IIC .
The vacuum pump can draw explosives gases or vapours of explosion
group IIC and temperature class T4 (COBRA NC 0100/ 0200/ 0300 B)
or T3 (only COBRA NC 0200/ 0300 B). The outside of the vacuum
pump is an equipment of temperature class T4 (COBRA NC 0100/
0200/ 0300 B) or T3 (only COBRA NC 0200/ 0300 B). Please also note
the corresponding explosion protection markings on the pump and the
switch off temperature setting.
The vacuum pump should not be used for the handling of explosive
atmospheres, which can self-destruct or are chemically unstable.
The vacuum system may be set up in zone 1 atmosphere.
The authorized ambient temperature is situated between -20 °C and
+40 °C.
The temperature of the sucked gases must be inferior to 60 °C.
The authorized back pressure at exhaust will be controlled through
PSA+/ 0301 (see table below):
COBRA
Back pressure
NC 0100 ¼ 0300 B
200 hPa
The vacuum pump should only be used if the material is made to resist
to chemical and mechanical influences (e.g. corrosion) during
operation, so that the explosion protection is not suppressed. This is
particularly applicable for the safety devices, such as temperature probe
and pressure switch.

General description

The vacuum system consists of a single-stage screw vacuum pump, as
well as the necessary supervisory and monitoring equipment. The
vacuum system is mounted on a robust base frame and completely
wired up with Exi or Exe terminal boxes. The vacuum pump is
equipped with a direct cooling system or a recirculating cooling system
to cool the pump.

Operation/ Running

Start up of the pump

Before the effective start up of the vacuum pump, the screw vacuum
pump has to be inertised inside, when it could not be excluded that an
explosive mixture is present inside the pump. This will be achieved on
flushing the vacuum pump with an non explosive gas, e.g. air or
nitrogen, when the pump is stopped and the pump inlet is closed.
