SAFETY REGULATIONS
Danger when handling the battery charger
This machine has been designed to the state-of-the-art and com-
plies with the currently applicable safety regulations. However,
failure to observe the relevant safety instructions when using the
machine
- may endanger the operator or third parties,
- may adversely affect the machine or other property.
All personnel entrusted with the start-up, operation, maintenance
and repair of the battery charger shall
- be sufficiently instructed,
- be acquainted with the handling of battery chargers and batter-
ies
- strictly observe these operating instructions.
Avoid any malfunctions that might impair safety and, if necessary,
eliminate them without delay.
Machine set-up regulations:
- Function-tested .................... - 20 °C to + 50 °C
- Component specifications .. Climatic category B
- Atmospheric humidity .......... 5 % to 85 %
When using this appliance, make sure that
- it is in a horizontal position (see Fig. 1),
- it is protected from direct sunlight and kept dry
- the ventilation louvers are kept clear to allow cooling air to flow.
Any other use shall not be in accordance with its intended use. The
manufacturer shall not be liable for any damage resulting from
such improper use.
Modifications to the battery charger
- Any modifications, supplements or reconstruction of the appli-
ance must not be carried out without the approval of the manu-
facturer.
- Ensure that parts in imperfect condition are replaced immedia-
tely.
Safety precautions during operation
- The battery charger may only be operated if all safety equipment
is in perfect working condition.
- Before switching on the battery charger, make sure that no
persons are jeopardized.
- Before disconnecting the charging clips, make sure that the
battery charger is disconnected from the power supply (make
sure that selector switch 12/0/24 is in the "0" position or press
the Stop button
).
- Check the battery charger at least once a week for externally
visible damage and deficiencies, and make sure that the safety
equipment is in proper working condition.
Risks caused by mains and charging current
- Always attach charging clips/leads with the correct polarity.
- Make sure that the charging cables are tightly connected, unda-
maged and insulated. Loose connections or scorched cables
must be replaced without delay.
- Regularly entrust an electrical engineering specialist with a PE
check of the mains and appliance leads.
- Before opening the battery charger, make sure that it is electri-
cally dead. Discharge any charge-storing components.
- This appliance may only be connected to plugs with a protective
conductor (connection to earth). In addition, we recommend
using an overload protection.
- Ensure the correct supply voltage! The data given on the rating
plate of your battery charger must correspond to the specifica-
tions of your local electricity supply system.
Risks caused by storage batteries
- Battery acid is caustic. Avoid any contact with the eyes, the skin
or the clothes. Immediately flush acid splashes with clean water
and, if necessary, consult a doctor.
- The electrolytic gas forming during the charge is highly inflam-
mable. Keep ignition sources (naked light, lighted cigarettes)
away from the battery. Also, do not disconnect the charging
clips during charging, due to the risk of sparking.
- The charge may only be performed in properly ventilated rooms
that are intended for this use.
- Protect battery from dirt and mechanical damage.
- Maintain battery to manufacturer's specifications.
- Always start with battery filled with acid (electrolyte) to the max.
marked level.
- User to make a weekly visual check of battery (equal acid level
in all cells).
- Unequal acid level and/or high water consumption in the indivi-
dual cells may be attributable to a battery defect.
- In such cases, the battery must be checked in a specialist
workshop and, if necessary, it must be exchanged.
- During charging, the acid level within the battery rises.
- Store charged batteries in a cool place. The discharge rate is
lowest at a temperature of approx. +2ºC.
Maintenance
- Regularly clean the casing surface using solvent-free agents.
- This appliance is maintenance-free. In case of malfunctions
contact your supplier (purchasing document or invoice needed).
Warranty and liability rights
The guarantee and warranty period for the battery charger is 2
years, from the invoice date. However, the manufacturer/supplier
shall not warrant for any injury or damage caused by:
- any other than the intended use of the battery charger
- improper mounting or operation
- operation of the battery charger with defective protection fea-
tures
- non-observance of the operating instructions
- modifications of the battery charger without approval by the
manufacturer
- foreign bodies or "force majeure".
CE marking
This battery charger meets the essential requirements of the Low-
Voltage and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directives and is there-
fore a CE-compliant product.
