REACTIVATING A TOTALLY
DISCHARGED BATTERY
It is not possible to automatically charge totally discharged batte-
ries. To recharge such batteries, you must first:
- disconnect the charger from the mains and from the battery
- shift the operating mode selector switch
position
- attach the charging clips to the correct terminals (
- Shift the selector switch
of battery
Attention! The reverse polarity battery protection feature is
deactivated while the battery is being reactivated.
- Plug in mains plug
- The Charge
, Final Charge
indicators flash alternately
- After approx. 30 - 60 sec., the exhausted battery will usually be
reactivated, and can then be recharged in the operating mode
suitable for this type of battery
- Unplug the mains plug
- Depending on the type of unit, either shift the 12/0/24 V selector
switch
to the "0" pos. or press the Stop button
- Detach the charging clips
- Select the required operating mode for the type of battery, as
described above
- Recharge the battery as described in the section headed "Char-
ging the battery"
BACK-UP SUPPLY MODE
While a battery is being replaced, the battery charger will supply
the electrical equipment with power so that it can continue to be
operated (e.g. window winders). To operate the battery charger in
back-up supply mode, take the following precautions:
- Disconnect the battery charger from the power supply
- Select the operating mode as described above
- Switch off the motor, cut off the ignition.
- Connect charging clips
described above.
- Acctiva 12/24-20: Shift the selector switch
according to the type of battery to be replaced
Attention! Never operate an Acctiva 24-10 or Acctiva 12/
24-20 in back-up supply mode with the selector switch in the
24 V position when it is connected to 12 V vehicle equipment
as this would cause the destruction of this vehicle equip-
ment. The manufacturer will accept no liability for any injury
or damage caused by such improper use.
- Plug in the mains plug
- Indicators
,
and
flash alternately
- Carefully remove the pole binders from the battery terminals -
the battery charger now takes over the function of the battery.
- Replace the battery
- Connect the pole binders to the correct terminals of the new
battery
- Unplug mains cable
of battery charger (depending on the type
of unit, shift selector switch
Stop button
)
- Remove charging clips
to the "Bottom"
to 12 or 24V, depending on the type
and Compensation Charge
of the charger
and
from the pole terminals
and
to the correct pole binders as
to 12 or 24 V,
to the "0" position or press the

PROTECTIVE FEATURES
For safe operation, the battery charger provides protection against:
- sparking when connecting binders, as the charging clips are not
live
- reverse-polarity battery connection (which would short-circuit
the charging clips)
- thermal overload of the battery charger
- selection of the wrong voltage (12 / 24 V).
- optional electronics for immobilising battery-powered vehicles
as long as they are connected to the mains for charging
Caution! The optional vehicle immobiliser "2-pole with
changeover contact: 4,100,285" must NEVER be run on two
different circuits.
N.B.! The optional vehicle immobiliser can be used for activating
safety features that perform a certain action as long as the charger
is running.
Example: A relay makes it impossible to start up a vehicle whose
battery is being recharged.
A circuit diagram of the vehicle immobiliser, and a short instruction
about how it works, may be found on the sticker
