4. Building up
4.1. Foundation timber
Begin the building by assembling foundation beams at even distance (if nothing else mentioned) to the area of the
bottom according to the separate foundation drawing and fasten them to the foundation for example with angle
®
irons (excluded). Foundation beams are protection treated with
Teknogrund
, but please prefer adding roofing
felt strip (excluded) or another insulator between the foundation and the beams to stop moisture climbing up from
the foundation to the timber. Please assemble outermost foundation beams a little bit nearer each other, inner than
the log walls are. There are two important reasons for that: rain water falling along the walls won't wet the point of
contact of foundation beams and the lowest logs. Additionally the outermost foundation beams work as side
support of the floorings. In practise the foundation are made about 5-10 mm smaller than the area of the shed.
4.2. The shed without floor
If your house delivery excludes floor and you are building the log frame for example directly on the concrete plate,
please add the insulator mentioned above between the undermost log and concrete slab. Additionally the
concrete slab should be 5-10 mm smaller than the log frame so that rain water falling along the walls won't wet the
point of contact of slab and the lowest logs.
4.3. Building up the log frame
When building up the log frame, please use the wooden blocks for assembly marked with letter X. Set the block on
top of the log tongue and hit the assembly block so far that the log goes to the bottom (interlock). Use only slight
knocks to avoid breaking the logs. If the log won't easily place itself, check that it's straight enough on the groove
joint of the lower log. The logs are machined to need no strength when assembling.
Begin building the log frame by installing the undermost log layer on top of the foundation beams. Note! Assemble

the tongue joints upwards. Check the cross-measure of the log frame (
) and then fasten the lowest logs
drawing 6
into the foundation timber with nails or screws according to the
from the timber blocking or from the
side of the log. Remember to pre-drill to avoid splitting of the log. If the shed excludes the floor and foundation
beams, fasten the log frame to the foundation.
Go on building up the walls one log layer at a time according to the wall construction drawings. When setting up
the wall, please follow that the frame rises evenly. In other words the joint of the crosswise log corner must be in the
middle of the log of another wall. Note! Assemble the logs very carefully following the drawings of wall
construction when building a house including both drilled and un-drilled logs of the same length. They must not
change places by mistake.
5. Installing the door and window
When you have assembled 3-4 layers of logs, it's time to install the door(s).
5.1. A single door
A single door has usually been pre-assembled to the frame. The frame including the will be slipped into its place
from upper side of the opening (hinges outside),
drawing 7
. Door frame has been machined so that the log fits
into the groove of it. If the frame doesn't easily go to its place, check if the log ends going to the groove are straight
as well as the possible laths at the frame. You can gently knock the frame into its place with a hammer and
assembling block to avoid breaking the frame. Fasten door handles and check that the door is functioning
properly.
