Pre-installation - Continued
Complete as many pre-installation tests as possible prior to taking the pump to the installation site.

Open the shipping carton, being careful not to damage the motor, pump, and motor lead. Visually inspect
for possible damage. Check the lead for abrasion or cuts. Make certain the check valve in the top of the
pump is free.
Compare the motor, pump, and control equipment to be certain they are matched. If a three phase motor,
check quick trip heaters in the magnetic starter against motor label. Attach extra nameplate accompanying
motor to outside of starter enclosure for future identification of motor.
Mount the pump end on the motor, if needed. (See previous section.) Splice the cable to the furnished lead
with a mechanical splice kit or splice as show on page 6. If packaged cable is to be used instead of the lead,
remove the connector and attach the connector from the packaged cable. USE ONLY THE SIZE CABLE
RECOMMENDED
IN THE ELECTRICAL INFORMATION TABLE TO ASSURE ADEQUATE VOLTAGE OF
THE MOTOR.
Remove cover from control box or magnetic starter. Do NOT connect line voltage at this time. Connect cable
to control. Make certain each lead is connected to the proper terminal as indicated in the instruction on the
control. (Also refer to the section on Wiring The Pump.)
Submerse pump in clean water in test tank. Make certain that water is at least five inches above the inlet
screen.
Make certain power is off in fused disconnect box. Connect line from disconnect box to control. Turn on
power at disconnect box. Pump should start immediately. DO NOT
RUN
PUMP
AT WIDE
OPEN
DIS-
CHARGE
IN TEST TANK.. Throttle pump down with a gate valve.
As soon as the unit is running, line current reading should be taken and matched against those in the
Electrical Information Table. Run the pump only a few minutes in the test tank. Stop. After one minute, start
pump again.
If pump operates satisfactorily, turn off the power at the disconnect box. Disconnect power supply from the
control and the control from the pump cable.
Replace the pump in the shipping carton to protect it during transportation to the well site.
installation In The Well.

The well should be thoroughly developed (that is, pump out all fine sand and foreign matter) before pump
is installed. Pump performance is based on pumping clear, cold, liquid water.
Install pump at least 15 to 20' below the lowest water level reached with pump running (lowest draw-down
water level), and at least 10' above the bottom of the well.
If plastic drop pipe is installed, torque stops are recommended
to prevent damage to pump and cable
caused by high starting torque. At least three torque stops should be installed. One right above pump, one
10 feet above pump and another 20 feet above pump.
On deep settings it is recommended that a line check valve be installed every 150 feet on the drop pipe.
Connect a pipe vise or collar clamp firmly to the upper end of the pipe to keep it from slipping and drop-
ping into the well. Lower the pipe column into the well. DO NOT LOWER THE UNIT BY ITS ELECTRICAL
CABLE. A nylon or polypropylene safety rope may be attached to the pump to aid in lowering it.
Lower the pipe into the well as each section is added. Make sure that the pump is installed at least 10 feet
above the bottom of the well to prevent fill in sediments from covering the motor.
CAUTION: Motor must be set above level at which water enters the well, or above bottom of casing or top
of casing pertorations. If this is not possible, a "flow inducer shroud" or "skirt" must be used.
Tape or clamp the electrica! cable (and rope) to the pipe at 10-foot intervals, being careful not to cut the
insulation. The cable can be checked for insulation breaks as it is attached to the pipe. Any damaged spots
Should be cleaned carefully and taped. Do not drag cable over the well casing or allow it to become
pinched.
Н a pressure tank without an air separator is used, install tee and drain fittings in the top section of drop
pipe ... approximately 15 feet below where the check valve with snifter will be installed.
