Ground Wire
THREE PHASE - 3 WIRE
WITH PRESSURE SWITCH
Make sure the power is turned off at Fused Disconnect Switch.
Connect the three wires of the motor drop cable to the LOAD ter-
minals in the magnetic starter.
The pressure switch will be wired to the Magnetic Starter to serve
as a pilot control. See instructions with the magnetic starter. Use
Correct size quick Trip heaters.
Connect three leads from the LINE terminals of the three pole
magnetic starter to the fused disconnect switch. Be sure correct
size fuses are used to give proper motor protection.
Make sure the voltage of the power line is same as voltage rating
of the motor.
Lightning arrestors, properly grounded, are RECOMMENDED.
NOTE:
When power is applied, check for correct rotation. If motor is
running in the wrong direction, the pump capacity will be below rated
capacity. With the pump in the well, rotation can be checked one of two
ways:
Discharge method:
Connect the leads to magnetic starter as in
Step 2 at left. Run the pump open discharge. Change any two
leads and run the pump at open discharge again. The largest
quantity of water indicates the correct rotation.
Pressure method:
Connect leads to magnetic starter as in Step 2
at left. Run unit with closed discharge and note the maximum pres-
sure reading. Change any two leads and run pump with closed dis-
charge again. Note maximum pressure reading. The highest pres-
sure reading indicates the correct rotation.
LIGHTNING ARRESTORS.
It is highly recommended that lightning arrestors be installed in the starter or control box to ground voltage surges. Single phase con-
trols require one arrestor; 3-phase controls require two arrestors. Lightning arrestor should be grounded to metal rise pipe with
ground clamp, or to other suitable ground if plastic drop pipe is used.
ዘ a lightning arrestor has already been installed at the lead-in power lines and is within 50 feet of the pump installation, additional
arrestors are not necessary. On overhead supply lines longer than 50 feet, arrestors should be installed at the control. ዘ the supply
line to the control is underground, an arrestor is not needed at the control.
The 1/3 through 1% HP Franklin motors have built in lightning protection and does not need an additional arrestor. Other single phase
units require one arrestor and three phase units require two arrestors. They should be connected to the control as shown below.
