log should be raised and securely supported by the limb stumps or by using supporting logs.
• If the log is supported at both ends and you must cut in the middle, make a downward cut
halfway through the log and then make the undercut. This will prevent the log from pinching
the bar and chain.
• If the log is supported on 1 end, make the undercut to 1/3 diameter of the log, then cut from
above to meet the first cut and avoid pinching.

• WARNING! DO NOT hold the log with your leg or any other body part.
• WARNING! DO NOT allow and DO NOT ask other persons to hold the log.
• Be careful that the chain does not cut into the ground when bucking as this causes rapid dulling
of the chain.
• When bucking on a slope, always stand on the uphill side of the log.
Limbing
• Limbing a tree is the process of removing the branches from a fallen tree.
• Leave the larger support limbs under the tree to keep the tree off the ground while cutting.
• Limbs should be cut one at a time. Remove the cut limbs from the work area often to help keep
the work area clean and safe.
• Branches under tension should be cut from the bottom up to avoid binding the chain saw.
• Keep the tree between you and the chain saw while limbing. Cut from the side of the tree
opposite the branch you are cutting.
