Use
4.1
Before use
● Before occupational use of this respirator, a written respiratory protection
program must be implemented meeting all the local government
requirements. In the United States, employers must comply with
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 which includes medical evaluation, training, and fit
testing.
● Strictly follow OSHA 1910.134 and other valid national regulations for the
use of respiratory equipment.
● Before using the facepiece for the first time, perform a leak test (see "Leak
tests", page 8).
4.1.1
Selecting the correct facepiece size
The facepiece bodies are available in sizes S, M, L, nose cups in sizes 1, 2, 3
and head harnesses in sizes M/L and S. In most cases, the standard size M2 is
used. If using size M2 cannot ensure sufficient leak tightness, another size
combination must be used.
WARNING
Each user must be provided with a facepiece of suitable size.
Prior to use, always make sure that the facepiece is leaktight. The face seal
between head and facepiece body must be free of hair and foreign substances
which could cause leakages. Spectacle wearers should wear facepiece
spectacles.
4.1.2
Preparing the facepiece for use
1. Install the facepiece spectacles if necessary.
2. If fitted, remove the protective film from the visor.
3. Open the head harness as far as possible.
4. Put the neck strap around the neck and fasten the facepiece in the standy
position using the carrying strap (see Figure B on Page 120).

4.1.3
Donning the facepiece
At very low temperatures, the user can reduce facepiece fogging by either
inhaling or holding his breath when donning the facepiece.
1. Loosen the facepiece from the standby position.
2. Pull the head harness apart, then put your chin into chin cup of the
facepiece body (see Figure C on Page 120).
3. Pull the head harness over your head and draw backwards.
4. Adjust the facepiece.
5. Pull the straps until evenly tightened; first the neck straps (1), then the
temple straps (2), finally the harness connecting piece (3, see Figure D on
Page 120).
6. Don the helmet and make sure that it fits correctly.
7. Check if the facepiece fits tightly (see "Checking tight fit", page 113).
4.1.4
Checking tight fit
4.1.4.1
Facepiece with RA-type connector
Choose either method A or method B to check tight fit of the facepiece.
Method A allows you to keep the canister connected to the facepiece. When
you use method B, the canister is not connected. As a result, method B does
not check the tight fit between facepiece and canister.
4.1.4.1.1 Method A
1. Screw the canister into the connector until it is tightly seated. Have a second
person check the firmness and correct connection.
2. Close the canister opening with the palm of your hand.
3. Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should be perceived, otherwise
check the fit of the facepiece.
The exhaled air must escape through the exhalation valve without
resistance.
4. Repeat the fit test twice.
4.1.4.1.2 Method B
1. Close the RA-type connector with the palm of your hand.
