Use & Maintenance
- When boiling water, cover the pot with a lid: this will save time and energy.
- For foods that require long cooking times, try to use the pressure cooker because it reduces
cooking time and therefore saves energy.
- Check that the hob is correctly adjusted: a yellow flame is a symptom of too much gas being used
(this can also be seen by pots becoming black) and a flame becoming separated from the flame
spreader is a symptom of too much air.
N.B. for any adjustments please ask for the advice of specialist staff.
- Turn on the oven only when needed, without excessively pre-heating it; also do not open the
oven unless necessary; it is particularly 'energy-intensive', so preheat only as long as strictly
necessary.
- To reheat food, try to use the microwave oven, as it does not need to be preheated and offers
major energy savings.
- For lighting, try to use modern energy-efficient lamps (fluorescent or LED), especially for rooms
where people stay longer: the initial investment is slightly higher but, besides being good for the
environment, they also become economically advantageous in the long run.
- Switch off lights if they are not needed: it is important to get used to not leaving lights on
unnecessarily.
- Switch off the TV set (or other similar appliances) with the main switch and not only with the
remote control because these appliances consume energy even in stand-by mode.
- Use the hood consciously, adjusting the speed according to the actual suction needs: if you only
use the hob with a few pots and pans – or which do not release much steam – set the cooker hood
to low suction or, if possible, open the windows slightly for air exchange.
- Clean the hood filters periodically: this maintenance will improve performance, thereby reducing
consumption.
- Use heating or cooling systems only when necessary and adjust thermostats appropriately; avoid
covering radiators with curtains or furniture if possible.
- When the heating or cooling system is in operation, try to keep the windows tightly closed,
avoiding any drafts; also make sure that the windows are well insulated (low thermal conductivity
or double-glazed windows).
- Do not turn on the hot water tap when not needed: even if the hot water does not make it to the
tap in time, there is a risk of starting the boiler unnecessarily.
- Choose the washing machine programme correctly, preferring those with low temperatures
(40°C- 60°C).
