the use of the protective device unsafe. However, the half masks allow for the use of corrective or protective eyewear. The half masks are not
suitable for use in potentially explosive environments.
4.2. Pre-Use Check
Before wearing the mask, check the product's integrity and ensure that the inhalation and exhalation membranes are in their correct positions.
4.3. Donning
The half mask should be worn by arranging the head harness as indicated in the photos A, B, C, ensuring that the straps do not twist and avoiding
excessive tension. By arranging the head harness as instructed, you achieve the best fit of the half mask on the face. If the straps are too short or
too long, adjust their length using the adjustment buckles and the strap ends.
4.4. Pneumatic tightness check
Before entering a contaminated environment, it is necessary to check the tightness of the facepiece on the face and the exhalation valve. With
the half mask worn, close the inhalation points with the palm of the hand and take a deep breath, allowing the mask to adhere to the user's face.
There should be no air leakage at any point of the facepiece. The fit test should be repeated 2-3 times. See Photo D.
4.5. Donning/doffing Filters
Figure 2 illustrates the various components and the operation of the bayonet connection.
• Place the sealing surface of the filter parallel to the surface of the bayonet connection on the mask, aligning the arrow (n) on the filter with
the notch (m) on the mask, allowing the teeth (o) on the base of the filter to engage with the bayonet.
• Rotate the filter in the direction of the arrow (i) indicated on the bayonet connection until it locks into place.
• To disassemble, follow the instructions in reverse order.
The photos E show how to install screw-on filters with EN 148-1 connection.
• Position the filter thread at the opening of the connection axially and rotate clockwise.
• Tighten the filter until it makes contact with the gasket.
• To disassemble, follow the instructions in reverse order.
5. MAINTENANCE
5.1. Disassembly
The half masks can be easily disassembled for replacement of any worn-out parts or for cleaning. Disassembly can be done without specific
tools:
• To remove the filters, follow the instructions in section 3.5.
• To remove the complete head harness, slide off the elastic straps and/or unbuckle them from the attachments on the mask body.
• The inhalation membrane can be removed from its site.
• The complete exhalation valve can be removed by pulling it out of its housing. It is also possible to replace only the exhalation membrane for
DUO and ST 85 half masks by removing it from the valve housing after opening the cover.
5.2. Cleaning, Washing, and Disinfection
The half mask should be thoroughly cleaned after use to remove sweat and condensation that may have accumulated inside. All components
should be washed thoroughly in warm water with a neutral detergent and rinsed in running water. Do not use solvents to clean the mask.
Spasciani cleaning wipes (code 160090000) can be used. To disinfect the half mask (disinfection may not be necessary if the mask is always used
by the same user), use an aqueous solution with a chlorhexidine-based disinfectant (0.5%) or an electrolytic chlorous disinfectant (0.1%). After
disinfection, all parts should be rinsed again in running water.
5.3. Inspections
Every time the half mask is washed or every 6 months, even if the mask has not been used, it is good practice to check the respirator's efficiency.
Carefully inspect that the membranes are in good condition and do not stick to their housing and ensure that the filter sealing gasket is not
damaged. For the ST 85, also check that the gasket on the mouthpiece is in its place and intact. It is recommended to replace this gasket at least
every two years. Additionally, check the condition of the rubber facepiece and head harness. If any parts need to be replaced, only use original
Spasciani spare parts. Please note that maintenance operations should be carried out by properly trained personnel.
6. STORAGE, PRESERVATION AND TRANSPORTATION
The half masks can be stored in their original packaging (polythene bag and box) until the expiration date indicated on the box (10 years), as the
materials used have excellent anti-aging properties. If the original packaging with the label indicating the expiration date and batch number is
lost, refer to the date (year/month) printed on the facepiece to determine the production date of the mask (and therefore its potential expira-
tion). It is recommended to store new and packaged half masks in well-ventilated warehouses under the specified humidity and temperature
conditions stated on the packaging. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures may reduce the shelf life of the half masks. Ready-to-use
