  • Page 8 Gin’ s philosophy is simple: to design gliders that he, and any other pilot, will love to fly. This philosophy applies equally for a tandem wing such as the Beetle, as for the world-beating competition glider, the Boomerang.
  • Page 9 2. Introducing the Beetle The Beetle is a new concept of tandem wing. Designer Gin Seok Song has drawn on all his years of experience to produce a wing that is uniquely in tune with the needs of today’ s pilots. The Beetle offers outstanding security, with precise but forgiving handling.

Highly skilled staff take extreme care during the entire manufacturing process. Stringent quality control is made after each step, and all materials that go into each wing can be traced.

Before you Fly Pre-delivery Inspection The Beetle is delivered with rucksack, spreader bars, inner bag, compression strap, repair tape and this manual. Your instructor or dealer should have made a test inflation followed by a test flight before delivery.
  • Page 12 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Tandem spreader bars The Beetle is delivered with Gin’ s original tandem spreader bars. The pilot loops are shorter and red; the passenger loops are longer and black. The main-attachment loops in the centre have to be connected to the risers of the tandem glider.
  • Page 13 The brake line lengths of the Beetle correspond to the tested results of DHV. These line lengths have been fine tuned by GIN test pilots, and it should not be necessary to adjust them. In soaring flight, it is common to fly with half a wrap on the brakes. However, care should be taken to release the wraps in any extreme situation.
  • Page 14 Gin calculates and designs his gliders for (draws the plan of the glider with) a distance between the carabiners of 44cm. We recommend setting a distance of 42cm to 50cm between the carabiners, depending on the size and design of the harness.
  • Page 15 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Pre-flight safety To fly this tandem glider you should: Be an experienced solo pilot with the sufficient, practical and theoretical training and experience to fly a tandem glider, and be qualified as a tandem pilot. Have the necessary tandem insurances and licences, as required in your country.
  • Page 16 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com 4. Flying the Beetle We recommend that you first practice inflating your glider on a small training hill, or on the flat ground. Make your first flight with your new paraglider in gentle conditions on a familiar flying site.

Simply guide the glider with the A-risers, keeping your arms bent and hands at the level of the shoulders. Allow your arms to rise in an arc and wait for the glider to inflate and come above your head –...

Nevertheless, should this occur, just let up the brakes and wait for the glider to surge forward. Cascade of events Many reserve deployments are a result of a cascade of over-corrections by the pilot.
  • Page 20 To quickly lose altitude without straining your body with high G-forces, you can use the B-line stall. To perform a B-line stall on a tandem glider is very difficult and not recommended by GIN Gliders. If you nevertheless want to try it, you must reach up to the B-risers just below the maillons and twist your hands while pulling strongly.
  • Page 21 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Spiral dive The spiral dive should be considered an extreme manoeuvre. Practice spiralling with caution and lesser sink rates to get a feel from the Beetle’ s behaviour. Weight shift and pull the brake on one side gradually.

However, motorized flying with the Beetle has been made with great success due to its very easy take off characteristics, good performance, stability and good handling. Always use certified combinations of engine/harness/glider.
  • Page 23 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com 5. Care, Maintenance and Repairs The materials used in the Beetle have been carefully selected for maximum durability. Nevertheless, following the guidelines below will keep your paraglider airworthy and will ensure a longer period of continuous and safe operation. Excessive wear is caused by careless ground handling and packing, unnecessary exposure to UV light, chemicals, heat and moisture.
  • Page 24 Very small holes in the sail can be repaired with the sticky back tape provided with your glider. Damaged lines should ideally be replaced by your GIN dealer. Before fitting a replacement line, check it for length against its counterpart on the other side of the wing. When a line has been replaced, always inflate the glider on the flat ground to check that everything is in order before flying.
  • Page 25 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com 6. Reference Testing and Certification The Gin Gliders Beetle has passed DHV 1-2(GH) with trimmers. The Beetle has also passed load tests and shock tests with a load exceeding 8G of the maximum weight in flight.

Gin Seok Song hat als Designer die Erfahrung vieler Jahre und sein ganzes Können einfliessen lassen, um einen Gleitschirm zu schaffen, der alle Anforderungen der Tandem-Piloten von heute vollends befriedigt. Der Beetle bietet einzigartige Sicherheit, kombiniert mit präzisem Handling, das aber auch Fehler verzeiht.

Hochqualifiziertes Personal produziert jeden Gleitschirm mit grösster Sorgfalt. Eine genaue Qualitätskontrolle wird nach jedem Verarbeitungsschritt ausgeführt und die Nachverfolgbarkeit der Herkunft aller Materialien ist gegeben.

Vor deinem ersten Flug Stückprüfung Der Beetle wird mit einem XXL Rucksack, Tandem Spreizen, Innensack, Packband, Reparaturmaterial und diesem Betriebshandbuch ausgeliefert. Vor der Auslieferung muss der Verkäufer den Gleitschirm aufziehen und einen Überprüfungsflug machen. Jeder Beetle wird im Werk einer genauen Stückprüfung unterzogen und auf seine Baugleichheit mit dem DHV- Gütesiegelmuster überprüft.
  • Page 68 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Tandem-Aufhängung Der Beetle wird mit einem Paar Original-GIN Tandem-Spreizen ausgeliefert, welche DHV-geprüft und zugelassen sind. Die Aufhängungsschlaufe auf der Pilotenseite ist kürzer und rot markiert, die Aufhängungsschlaufen auf der Passagierseite sind länger und schwarz markiert.   • Page 69 Zeichnung zu sehen ist. Rucksack Alle GIN Glider werden mit einem robusten Rucksack aus Ripstop KODURAÒ ausgeliefert. Dieser Rucksack ist einfach zu packen und bietet gute Ergonomie und Tragekomfort. Für den Tandem haben wir einen XXL Rucksack standardmässig, damit all deine Utensilien reinpassen.
  • Page 70 Fliegen mit Gewichtsverlagerung und erhöht die Stabilität etwas. Ein weiterer Abstand ist gut für mehr Feedback vom Gleitschirm und gibt etwas weniger Stabilität. Gin berechnet die Geometrie des Gleitschirms für einen Karabinerabstand von 44cm. Wir empfehlen mit einem Karabinerabstand zwischen 42cm und 50cm zu fliegen. Abhängig ist dies auch etwas vom Gurtzeugtyp, mit dem man fliegt.
  • Page 71 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Voraussetzungen zum Fliegen Um mit diesem Tandemschirm fliegen zu können, solltest du: Ein erfahrener Solo Pilot mit ausreichender Erfahrung sein, der eine theoretische und praktische Tandemausbildung absolviert hat. Die vorgeschriebenen Versicherungen und Berechtigungen für den Tandemschirm haben. In der richtigen mentalen Verfassung sein, nicht extrem gestresst und nicht beinflusst von verschriebenen oder anderen Drogen.

Fliegen mit dem Beetle Wir raten dir, dass du dich zuerst bei Aufziehübungen am Übungshang oder in der Ebene mit deinem Gleitschirm vertraut machst. Mache deine ersten Flüge mit einem neuen Gleitschirm bei sanften Bedingungen in einem dir vertrauten Fluggelände.

  • Page 74 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Geringstes Sinken / bestes Gleiten Mit der Geschwindigkeit des geringsten Sinkens fliegst du, wenn du den Gleitschirm ca. 30cm anbremst. Die Geschwindigkeit des besten Gleitens bei ruhiger Luft fliegt man, wenn man ungebremst fliegt. Beschleunigtes Fliegen Die Trimmer, wenn geöffnet, geben dir eine bessere Gleitleistung gegen den Wind.

  • Page 76 All manuals and user guides at all-guides.com Trudeln Beim normalen Thermikfliegen ist man weit entfernt von der Grenze, bei der der Gleitschirm anfängt zu trudeln. Sollte man trotzdem einmal den Gleitschirm versehentlich zum Trudeln bringen, dann gibt man einfach die Hände sofort wieder nach oben und der Gleitschirm wird etwas nach vorne gehen und wieder normal fliegen.
  • Page 77 B-Stall verwenden. Einen B-Stall mit dem Tandem zu fliegen ist sehr schwer und wird daher von Gin Gliders nicht empfohlen. Um ihn einzuleiten, greife am besten in die B- Leinen oberhalb der Leinenschlösser und ziehe die B-Gurte langsam nach unten. Am Anfang ist dazu ein sehr hoher Kraftaufwand erforderlich.

Übe Steilspiralen mit Vorsicht und am Anfang nur mit geringer Sinkgeschwindigkeit, um mit diesem Fluggefühl vertraut zu werden. Halte dich an die folgenden Hinweise, damit dein Gleitschirm möglichst lange lufttüchtig bleibt und sicher zu fliegen ist. Besonders stark beansprucht man einen Gleitschirm durch schonungsloses Bodenhandling, unsachgemässes Verpacken, unnötige UV-Belastung (lasse den Gleitschirm nie unnötig in der Sonne liegen).
