Before Calling for Service
Problem
Surface burner does not ignite.
Oven does not heat.
Oven temperature is not accurate.
Oven cycles on and off.
The oven smokes the first few times it is
turned on.
Range top is warm during use.
Food cooks slowly or will not maintain
constant boil.

Burner should ignite within 4 seconds. If burner does not ignite
within 4 seconds turn control knob to OFF position and follow
directions in "Placing Grates and Burner Caps".
If burner cap is properly placed. See "Operating Surface Burner
during a Power Failure" to check gas supply to burner. If burner
ignites, verify range is plugged in, circuit breaker is not tripped, or
fuse is not blown.
If burner still does not ignite in 4 seconds, contact an authorized
servicer.
Confirm range is plugged in.
If both oven and surface burners ignite, check circuit breaker.
Check control for proper setting.
Store purchased oven thermometers do not measure oven
temperature accurately. An accurate digital thermometer is
necessary to calibrate oven.
Check for blocked heat vents.
Change oven temperature through oven control knob.
Aluminum foil alters oven temperature.
Oven bottom may not be in correctly.
Oven thermostat capillary bulb in top part of oven cavity may be
touching side of oven cavity or coated with food or cleaner. Clean
or adjust clip to hold bulb away from oven wall.
This condition is normal when baking or roasting. To maintain a
temperature for baking, oven cycles on and off. The temperature
may vary up to 25°F higher or lower than the oven temperature
set on the control.
Minor smoking is normal first few times oven is used.
Normal condition.
Improper cookware causes poor cooking results. Pans should be
made of heavy material and be same diameter as surface
element. See " Cooking Utensils" section.
