General Setup
Besides the on-site operation you can configure the M400 transmitter either via a configuration
tool, an asset-management-tool or via a handheld terminal.
General setup for HART communication is shown below. See FOUNDATION fieldbus program
guide for the setup of FOUNDATION fieldbus communication.
Prerequisite: T he M400 transmitter and the sensor are mounted and electrically connected.

Note: The DD for configuration tools PDM and AMS is on the supplied CD-ROM. You can also
download the DD via the internet: "www.mt.com/M400".
For steps 1 to 5 and step 13 refer to the documentation of the tool.
1. Install configuration tool e.g. PDM or AMS.
2. Install DD for HART interface.
3. Update device catalog.
4. Build up connection. Check COM port settings if necessary.
5. Load configuration from device.
6. Set Tag or/and Long Tag.
Menu path: Device Setup > HART Setup
7. Set Date and Time. Set the time in the 24 hour format. The time format cannot be
changed. Menu path: Device Setup > System
8. Set range of the analog output signal.
Menu path: Detailed setup > Analog Output
– URV (Upper Range Value) and LRV (Lower Range Value): The values can be changed to
the current measurement range. The values have to be within the measurement limits of
the sensor.
– USL (Upper Sensor Limit) and LSL (Lower Sensor Limit): The limits are defined by the
sensor and cannot be changed.
Turn on HART functionality of M400 transmitter via transmitter.
