Donning the facepiece
NOTICE
i
i
At very low temperatures, the user can reduce facepiece
fogging by either inhaling or holding his breath when donning
the facepiece.
1. Loosen the facepiece from the standby position.
2. Pull the head harness apart, then put your chin into chin cup of the
facepiece body (see Figure C on page 263).
3. Pull the head harness over your head and draw backwards.
4. Adjust the facepiece.
5. Pull the straps until evenly tightened; first the neck straps (1), then
the temple straps (2), finally the harness connecting piece (3, see
Figure D on page 263).
6. Don the helmet and make sure that it fits correctly.
7. Check if the facepiece fits tightly (see chapter 3.1.4 on page 253).
3.1.4
Checking tight fit
Facepiece with RA-type connector
Choose either method A or method B to check tight fit of the facepiece.
Method A allows you to keep the canister connected to the facepiece.
When you use method B, the canister is not connected. As a result,
method B does not check the tight fit between facepiece and canister.
Method A
1. Screw the canister into the connector until it is tightly seated. Have
a second person check the firmness and correct connection.
2. Close the canister opening with the palm of your hand.
3. Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should be perceived,
otherwise check the fit of the facepiece.
The exhaled air must escape through the exhalation valve without
resistance.
4. Repeat the fit test twice.
Dräger FPS 7000
Method B
1. Close the RA-type connector with the palm of your hand.
2. Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should be perceived,
otherwise check if the facepiece was donned correctly.
The exhaled air must escape through the exhalation valve without
resistance.
3. Repeat the fit test twice.
4. Screw the canister into the connector until it is tightly seated. Have
a second person check the firmness and correct connection.
Facepiece with P-type connector
Choose either method C or method D to check tight fit of the facepiece.
Method D allows you to keep the air-supply system connected to the
facepiece.
Method C
1. Put lung demand valve in the connector.
2. Turn and pull the lung demand valve to check for tight fit. Have a
second person check the firmness and correct connection.
3. Close the medium pressure hose with your thumb.
4. Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should be perceived,
otherwise check the fit of the facepiece. The exhaled air must
escape through the exhalation valve without resistance.
5. Repeat the fit test twice.
6. Connect self-contained breathing apparatus or airline breathing
apparatus to the lung demand valve.
Method D
If lung demand valve and air-supply system are already connected to
the facepiece, proceed as follows:
1. Inhale and hold your breath - there should be no audible leak.
2. Recommence breathing - exhaled air should easily flow out of the
exhalation valve.
