Each employer shall make sure to
protect workers in regards to health
and safety at their work place
(European Directive 89/391/CEE).
In particular, for companies where
EXplosive ATmosphère are likely to
happen, site managers shall comply
with the European Directive 1999/92/
CE (User Directive).

This directive defines how zones
where
workers
subjected to the risks linked to an
ATEX shall be classified, depending
upon the frequency and the duration
of their occurence:
Medium and
low
A place in which
an explosive
atmosphere is
likely
to occur
during normal
operation.
ZONE 1
ZONE 21
are
potentially
Very Low
A place in which
an explosive
atmosphere is
not likely to occur
during normal
operation, but
if it does occur,
it will persist for
a short period
only (foreseeable
abnormal
operation).
