Fuel Filter Maintenance
Use a hooked wire to extract the fuel filter from inside the fuel
tank. Remove and replace the filter element. Before reinstalling
the filter, inspect the condition of the fuel line. If damage or dete-
rioration are noted, the unit should be removed from service until
you can consult with an authorized servicing dealer.
Make sure you do not pierce the fuel line with the end of
the hooked wire. The line is delicate and can be damaged
easily.
Replace the spark plug annually: Use only NGK CMR5H or
equivalent resistor type spark plug of the correct heat range.
Set spark plug electrode gap to 0.6 mm.
Cleaning silencer
Never operate the unit with a damaged or missing silencer
or spark arrester! Operating with a missing or damaged
spark arrester is a fire hazard and could also damage your
hearing.
IMPORTANT
Carbon deposits in silencer will cause a drop in engine output
and overheating. Spark arrestor screen must be checked peri-
odically.
1.
Remove engine cover.
2.
Remove spark arrestor cover and spark arrestor screen from
silencer. Replace screen if plugged with carbon deposits.
3.
Install spark arrestor screen and cover.
4.
Install engine cover.
Valve adjustment
Combustion chamber should be decarbonized, and the valve
clearance should be adjusted. It is highly recommended that
this is done by a Shindaiwa-trained service technician.
1.
Remove engine cover, rocker arm cover, and set piston at
TDC-compression.
2.
Loosen adjuster locknut so that the 2.5 mm Allen socked
head adjustment screw can turn freely.
Performing a valve adjustment incorrectly may cause hard
starting and/or can damage the unit. Refer to the C-4 Ser-
vice Manual for complete valve adjustment procedure and
torque specifications.
If you are unfamiliar with this engine or uncomfortable with
this procedure, consult with an authorized shindaiwa ser-
vicing dealer.
