Before you start Before you start Assembly WARNING Read the operator's manual carefully to ensure that you assemble the product correctly. Using a product that has been incorrectly assembled could lead to an accident or serious injury. IMPORTANT The terms "left", "left-hand", and "LH"; "right", "right-hand", and "RH"; "front" and "rear" refer to directions as viewed by the op- erator during normal operation.

Engine operation Engine operation Starting the engine WARNING When starting the engine, observe the precautions described from Page 4in the section "For safe use of your prod- uct" to ensure that you operate the product correctly. Inspect guards for damage and ensure that they are securely in place. Replace if guard is damaged or missing. Check that the attachment is firmly attached and in safe operating condition.

Engine operation Checking that the area around you is safe, hold the position closest to the engine firmly as shown in the illustration, pull- ing several times on the starter grip. If you hear an explosion-like sound and the engine stops im- mediately, move the choke lever to the Open position and continue pulling on the starter grip to start the engine.

Engine operation Stopping the engine Move the throttle trigger to the idle speed position and set the engine to idling (i.e. low speed), keep it idling for about 2 minutes. Move the ignition switch to the Stop position. In the event of an emergency, stop the engine immediately using the ignition switch.

Maintenance Maintenance WARNING Before performing any maintenance, repair, or cleaning work on your unit, make sure the engine and attachment are completely stopped. Disconnect the spark plug wire before performing service or maintenance work. Daily Maintenance Prior to each work day, perform the following: Remove the dirt and debris from the engine, check the cool- ing fins and air cleaner for clogging, and clean them as nec- essary.

Valve adjustment Combustion chamber should be decarbonized, and the valve clearance should be adjusted. It is highly recommended that this is done by a Shindaiwa-trained service technician. Remove engine cover, rocker arm cover, and set piston at TDC-compression. Loosen adjuster locknut so that the 2.5 mm Allen socked head adjustment screw can turn freely.

Maintenance Insert 0.10 mm feeler gauge between valve stem tip and rocker arm. Turn adjustment screw (clockwise = tighter, anticlockwise = looser) until feeler gauge is almost snug. Back off just enough to allow gauge to slip out with limited resistance. While holding adjustment screw in place with Allen driver, tighten locknut with wrench.

Maintenance Long term storage Whenever the unit will not be used for 30 days or longer, use the following procedures to prepare it for storage. Clean external parts thoroughly and apply a light coating of oil to all metal surfaces. Drain all the fuel from the carburettor and the fuel tank.
