Troubleshooting guide
GENERAL
There is no picture.
• Is the AC cord connected properly? (page 6)
• Is the power turned on ? ( page 13)
• Is the video input selection set correctly ? (page 30)
• Was the SCREEN button pressed? (page 17, 36)
There is no sound.
• Is the power turned on ? ( page 13)
• Was an incorrect function button pressed?
• Is the volume set properly? Do you have headphones
plugged in?
• There will be no audio during the following DVD
playback modes: slow playback, Frame Advance, fast
forward and fast reverse.
There is poor or no color.
• Adjust the color setting. (page 21)
• [DVD and VCD only] Is this unit connected directly to
the video projector ? Or is it connected through a video
deck or selector switch ?
The picture may be bad when used with some
projectors due to the DVD copy protection scheme.
The picture quality may also suffer if this unit is
connected through a selector with other video
equipment.
Try turning off the power to the other video equipment.
The remote control does not work or works poorly.
• Are the remote control batteries installed correctly?

• Is the remote control too far from the main unit? Is
there something in the way?
• Are the remote control batteries getting weak?
• Is the main unit in sunlight or strong fluorescent light?
Clicking noise sound
• Unavoidable expansion or contraction of cabinet due
to temperature changes. This is not a problem.
DISC PLAYER SECTION
The disc does not play or plays poorly.
• Is the disc correctly placed? (page 34)
• Is your desired disc selected properly?
• Is the disc dirty? (page 65)
• Is the lens affected by condensation?
Wait approximately one hour and try again.
• Are you trying to use a disc that can't be played, such
as a CD-ROM? (page 32)

• [DVD only] Does the disc exceed the specified rating
level? (page 60)
• [DVD and VCD only] Is the disc recorded in the NTSC
color system?
Use a NTSC color system disc.
• [DVD only] The picture quality may be somewhat poor
when paused, during Frame Advance,
fast forward or fast reverse. This is normal.
The DVD does not play according to your
preferences.
• Check your settings. (page 53)
• Many DVD features, such as the menu, subtitles, multi-
audio, multi-angle, rating functions, are dependent on
the DVD software itself. Check the instructions for your
disc.
No recording to a Mini Disc player
• There are some DVDs from which digital recordings
are prohibited.
Try to record through the analog audio out put jacks.
To reset DVD setup
If you forget your password for the DVD rating-level
setting, or if you want to reset the DVD setup setting to
default for any other reason, reset as follows.
Note
Remove the all of discs from the disc compartment
before initializing the DVD setup.
1 Press DISC and wait until the unit stops.
2 Press s while pressing DISC.
3 Press POWER to turn off the power.
4 Press POWER again to turn the power back on.
DVD has many capabilities
Some of these capabilities may differ based on the
disc being played. The following situations may be
caused by information on the disc itself.
• The audio or subtitles are not reproduced in the
specified default language.
• The audio track or subtitles cannot be changed.
• There are no subtitles.
• No DVD menu. The DVD menu does not display
in the language you want.
• The view angle cannot be changed.
• Everything on the disc is played back regardless
of the rating level you have set.
