Biodent® K+B Plus / OVS II
Examples of the Use of Opaques O1–O4:
O1 – white: brightens all dentine-coloured opaques
O2 – transparent-grey/O3 – blue-grey:
To provide more translucency in the incisal area, apply opaque O2 – shaded if necessary
with O3 – without perceptibly encroach ing on the dentine-coloured opaque, thus avoiding
an abrupt transition at the tip .
O4 – pink: covers retentions in contact with the gum .
OVS II Opaque Thinner
lf the opaque thickens after a time it can be made less viscous by adding a few drops of
thinner (shake well!) .
Clean brushes well with the thinner after use – but never use thinner in which brushes
have been cleaned for thinning opaques (risk of contamination) .
7. Processing Instructions
Direct Build-up Method (Liquid S)
Mix the material to a paste on the palette with the Biodent K+B instrument . The same
instrument is suitable for applying and mould ing the paste .
Pack undercuts on dies and adjacent plaster teeth with sealing compound and coat the
dies and adjacent parts of the cast with Isolation Fluid H . Soak the plaster dies in water
before isolating to eliminate air . The isolat ing film must be left to dry for 15 minutes before
applying the plastic paste .
Mixing
Mix the materials immediately before use . The ratio of liquid and powder is 1:2 by weight .
First pour the monomer into the hollow of the palette and dispense powder until all the
monomer is absorbed . The surface is then slightly glossy . Mix well for 15–30 seconds . The
proportions are right when the paste hardly drips from the spatula .
Doughing time is from 2 to 4 minutes, depend ing on room temperature . Then knead the
dough well with the spatula . lf it is still tacky and cobwebby, moisten the instrument with
monomer and smooth the dough . The right consistency is reached when the material is no
longer tacky and does not cobweb but is plastic and malleable (if the material is cut into, the
cut should not close up) . lt can now be applied for up to 15 minutes . After that, there is still
plenty of time, even in multispan bridgework, for modelling and carving (another 30 minutes) .
Layering (Figs 3–9)
O = Opaque
D = Dentine
S = Enamel
H = Neck
T = Transparent
The materials are applied in the order neck, dentine, enamel material .
