V. OPERATION
5.1- Before starting
WARNING
- Before proceeding to your job, carefully read the "Safety" section.
- It is recommended to first practice sawing easy logs. This also helps you get
accustomed to your machine.
- Always follow the safety regulations.
- The chain saw must only be used for cutting wood. It is forbidden to cut other types of
material. Vibrations and kickback vary with different materials and the requirements
of the safety regulations would not be respected.
- Do not use the chain saw as a lever for lifting, moving or splitting objects.
- Do not lock it over fixed stands.
- It is not necessary to force the saw into the cut. Apply only light pressure while running the engine
at full throttle.
- When the saw chain is caught in the cut, do not attempt to pull it out by force, but use a wedge or a
lever to open the way.
- Check that the power supply (voltage and amperage) corresponds with the specifications on the
machine. Connect machine to mains power.
- Before starting work, always check the condition of the chain, to work safely.
- Check the oil level is sufficient. If the oil level is down to about 5 mm from the lower scale, it is
imperative to add oil. If the level is above this scale, you can start work.
- Check that the lubrication mechanism of the chain is working properly (see 4.11):
- Check the chain tension, and its attachment (see "chain tension).
- Check the chain brake proper function (see "chain brake).
In some circumstances, it is dangerous to proceed to felling. Do not cut down a tree:
- If you do not have a clear view of the felling area, for example because of fog, rain, snow, or at
dusk or dawn.
- If you cannot precisely determine the direction of tree fall, because of unpredictable wind's
strength and direction.
- if felling is located on a slippery, wet or frozen ground, which does not allow you to get proper
footing and balance.
Spiked bumper (a): Device (toothed stop for holding saw steady against
wood), fitted in front of the guide bar mounting point, acting as a pivot when in
contact with a tree or log.
Installation of spiked bumper: The Spiked bumper belongs to the chain saw.
It must be screwed up on chain saw before the initial use.
Regularly check the spiked bumper is securely assembled, tighten screws if necessary.
Use of spiked bumper: The Spiked bumper must always be put on while using the chain saw on tree
trunk.
Push the spiked bumper into the tree trunk by using the rear handle. Push the front handle in the
direction of cutting line.
The spiked bumper must be remaining set for further saw guiding if necessary.
Pull-in effect frequently occurs when the bumper spike of the saw is not held securely against the
tree or limb and when the chain is not rotating at full speed before it contacts the wood.
To avoid pull-in effect, always start a cut with the chain rotating at full speed and the bumper spike
in contact with the wood
Use the spiked bumper to support the chainsaw on the wood. During sawing, you can use the spiked
bumper as a lever.
