Fitting the communication unit onto the full facepiece
When the communication unit is to be fitted for the first time:
a. Remove the screw from the connector on the full facepiece.
b. Dismantle exhalation valve cover and cap from the full
facepiece.
c. For full facepieces with P connector:
Insert the button of the full facepiece into the mount (see
page 6, fig. H).
d. Hook the mount into the visor frame of the full facepiece (see
page 6, fig. I for full facepieces with P connector or fig. K for
full facepieces with P18 connector) and fasten it with the
supplied screw (1, see page 6, fig. L, fastening torque:
0.36 lbf ft / 0.5 Nm).
When the mount for the communication unit is already fitted:
a. Slide the communication unit onto the connector in parallel to
the edge of the mount and hook it into the visor frame of the
full facepiece (see page 7, fig. M). The communication unit is
fitted correctly when no gap can be seen between the mount
and the communication unit.
b. Switch on the communication unit and check that it is
functioning before it is used.
3.3
Preparations before each use
3.3.1
Checking readiness for use
Carry out the following steps at the beginning of the shift:
1. Establish the connection to the radio:
Connect the radio connector cable of the communication unit
to the radio.
or
Pair both communication unit and radio (see chapter 3.3.2 on
page 14).
2. Switch on the radio.
3. Switch on the communication unit.

4. Check the voice amplifier unit: The volume of spoken words must
be amplified.
5. Adjust the volume of the radio.

Adjust the volume to a medium level to ensure that an
incoming signal does not cause hearing damage.
6. Press the push-to-talk button and check that the communication is
functioning.
When using the insert for the Bluetooth connection, wait until the
radio and the communication unit are connected to each other.
If no Bluetooth connection can be established, both insert and
radio must be paired again.
7. Switch off the radio and the communication unit.
3.3.2
Pairing the insert for the Bluetooth connection and the
radio
The insert for the Bluetooth connection must be fitted.
1. Set the radio to pairing mode.
2. Switch on the Bluetooth pairing mode of the communication unit:

simultaneously.
A visual signal indicates that the communication unit and the radio
are being paired.

If a Motorola AXP series radio is used, the blue dot on the
radio must be held close to one of the positions shown in
fig. N on page 7.
Successful pairing will be indicated on the radio display.
