Set the wheel cover in place and push the start-up disc onto the wheel axle. When
putting the drive wheel in place make sure the pinion and gear rim interlock, turn
the wheel on the axle slightly to achieve this if necessary.
Set the dust cap in place, fix using the hexagon nut and tighten to such an extent
that the wheels can just about turn easily but without play.

Servicing the drive

It is absolutely essential that the Bowden cable runs easily for switching on and off,
so that the control drive works perfectly.

Changing the drive V-belt

The drive V-belt must be replaced by a specialist workshop.

15 SERVICING THE ENGINE

WARNING
Avoid injury! Engine exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide and can cause
serious illness or death.
Do not run an engine in an enclosed area, such as a garage, even with doors and
windows open.
Move the machine to an outside area before starting the engine.
IMPORTANT
During cleaning and maintenance work, always close the fuel tap and the
ventilation valve (1) A (only for model with additional tank), tilt the mower
forwards O (spark plug facing upwards). If it should become necessary to place
the engine/mower on its side, then place it on the exhaust side, never on the
carburettor side, as otherwise start-up problems could occur. When tilting the
mower upwards make sure the ejection flap does not get damaged. Secure the
mower in its raised position!
ATTENTION
When tilting or placing the mower on its side, ensure that no oil or fuel comes out
of the machine. Fire hazard!
The regular implementation of the prescribed maintenance and care work are the
prerequisite for a permanent and fault-free functionality of the motor and also the basic
requirement for any guarantee claims.
The motor should be kept clean, particularly on the outside, and the silencer and
cylinder area must always be kept free from foreign bodies (e.g. grass residue). The
exhaust and motor reach very high temperatures when in use. Flammable foreign
bodies such as foliage, grass etc. may catch fire.
Perfect cooling can also only ensured when cylinder ribs are always clean.
IMPORTANT
Never use a pressure cleaner or ordinary water jet to clean the motor. Damages
or expensive repairs can be the consequence of such action.

Oil change

NOTE
For environmental reasons, we recommend that the oil change is performed by
an authorised workshop.
The first oil change in a new engine is required after approx. 5 operating hours. Later, it
should be done every 50 operating hours or at least once per mowing season.
Before the engine or the equipment is tilted to drain oil, empty the petrol tank and
let the engine to run until it stops due to lack of fuel.
Stop the engine and remove the spark plug connector.
Renew the oil as long as the engine is warm.
To change the oil, remove the dipstick from the oil refill neck.
Turn the mower on one side so that the spark plug side is facing upwards and the
used oil can drain into a container.
Do not drain used oil into the sewage system or soil; dispose of it according
to the local regulations.
Position the mower straight and fill brand-name oil into the spout (for quantity and
quality, see technical data). Screw the dipstick in and check the oil level (see
"Check oil level" and "Fill with oil", illustration Y1 )! If the oil level is correct,
insert the dipstick and tighten it.

Oil filter change (Illustration X )

Replace the oil filter annually or after every 50 operating hours during the course of an
oil change. (Order no. see original spare parts and accessories)
Drain the oil (see oil change).
Screw off the oil filter (1) and dispose of properly.
Lightly lubricate the seal of the new oil filter with new clean oil.
Screw on the oil filter hand-tight, until the seal makes contact with the oil filter
adapter. Then tighten further by approx. 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
Add high quality oil (for quantity and type, see technical data) into the filler.
Insert the dipstick and check oil (see illustration Y1 )!
Start the engine and allow to idle. Check for oil leakage and, if necessary, tighten
the filter further.
Recheck the oil level and, if necessary, add more oil.
Do not dispose of the oil filter as normal household waste. Dispose of it at a
public collection point or authorised specialist workshop.

Cleaning and replacing the air filter (Illustration W )

IMPORTANT
Never let the engine start or run whilst the air filter is removed.
Loosen the nut (1) on the air filter cover (2) and remove the cover.
Remove the pre-filter (3) and paper filter element (4).
Clean the paper filter element every 50 operating hours.
Knock gently onto a smooth surface if soiled lightly. Replace if heavily soiled or
damaged. Do not wash out paper filters, nor blow them out with compressed air or
grease them.
Clean the pre-filter every 50 operating hours.
Wash pre-filters in hot water with liquid detergent, rinse them out in clean water,
press out excess water and allow to dry thoroughly in air. Do not lubricate the pre-
filter with oil.
Insert the dry pre-filter on the paper filter element and fit both in the air filter plate
(5). Ensure that the air filter sits firmly in the plate.
Put the cover (2) on the air filter and fasten it with the nut (1) on the air filter plate
(5).
In the case of unfavourable operation conditions (severe formation of dust), cleaning is
required after every mowing process. Replace the paper filter element and pre-filter
annually or every 200 operation hours.
(Please see original spare parts and accessories for Order No. of filter element and pre-
filter)

Checking the spark plug (Illustration Y )

To check for wear, remove the spark plug connector and unscrew the spark plug. If the
electrode is badly worn the spark plug must be replaced as a matter of course. (Order
no. see original spare parts list and accessories).
Otherwise it is sufficient to clean the spark plug and set the electrode gap to 0.5 mm.
Screw the spark plug (pay attention to sealing ring) into the engine by hand and tighten
using the socket wrench. Press on spark plug connector. Replace the spark plug
annually.
Correct winter storage of the engine (or when not used for a long period
of time)
Empty the petrol tank or allow the engine to run until it stops due to lack of fuel.
Switch off engine and disconnect spark plug cable.
Drain off the oil while the engine is still warm. Fill with fresh oil (for quantity and
type, see technical data).
Clean grass and chaff from cylinder and cylinder head fins and around muffler.
Always keep the machine in a clean condition in a closed, dry room out of reach of
children.
