INSTALLATION OF THE UNIT

CAUTION: before carrying out any work, put the proper
individual protection devices on.
CAUTION: before carrying out any work, make sure the
electrical power is unplugged.
CAUTION: electrical connections, the installation of the fan
coils and their accessories must only be carried out by peo-
ple with the proper technical and professional qualifications
for the installation, conversion, expansion and maintenance
of the machinery and able to check that it is working pro-
perly and safe.
In particular, the following checks are required for electrical
connections:
- Measurement of the electrical system insulation resistance.
- Continuity test of the protection wires.
Instructions essential for the proper installation of the equip-
ment are shown here.
The final touches to all the operations are however left to the
experience of the installation engineer in accordance with
the specific needs.
Do not install units in premises where there are inflammable
gases or acid or alkaline substances that could irreparably
damage the aluminium-copper heat exchanger or internal
plastic parts.
Do not install the unit in workshops or kitchens where the oil
vapours mixed with the treated air can be deposited on the
exchange batteries, reducing their performance on the parts
inside the unit damaging the plastic parts.
Choose a position in the centre of the room if possible; the
regulation of the air output allows the air to be distributed
optimally in the room. Generally the best position of the fins
is that that allows the launch of the air adhering to the ceiling
for the coined effect, during cold functioning. The side sec-
tion of the deflectors shows the opening positions (fig. 21) for
proper warm functioning (opening 20°) and cold functioning
(opening 10°) of the machine. There are intermediate and
completely closed positions available. Thanks to the special
shapes of the fins the machine can also function with the
deflectors completely closed.
The regulation of the air output allows the air to be distribu-
ted optimally in the room.
Do not install at height of above three metres (fig. 13).
The FCA unit is set for connection with fresh air ducts and
for the delivery of the treated air in an adjacent room. The
KFA accessory, a metal flange 100 mm in diameter suitably
scaled to be attached to the polystyrene basin is available for
the link with the ducts. See the instructions supplied with the
accessory for installation instructions.
CONNECTIONS
The water, condensate drainage and electrical circuit ducts
must be provided for.
• E
LECTRICAL CONNECTION
The unit must be connected directly to an electrical outlet or
to an independent circuit.
To protect the unit against short circuits, fit an omnipolar
thermal trip max. 2A 250V (IG) to the power line with a
minimum contact opening distance of 3 mm.
The electrical power cable must be of the H07 V-K or N07
V-K type with 450/750V insulation if inside a tube or race-
way. Use cables with double H5VV-F type insulation for visi-
ble cable installation.
Follow the wiring diagram with the equipment and shown in
this document when making the connections.
The four-speed fan speed permits various connection alterna-
tives, connect the cables from the control panel to the termi-
nals of the three speeds chosen.
• H
YDRAULIC CONNECTIONS
The hydraulic attachments of the FCA unit are (fig. 4-6):
- 3/4" gas hot/cold battery attachment with flat flange vents and
gaskets for FCA 32/34 - 36/38 - 42/44 - 62/64 and 1" gas for
FCA 82/84 - 122/124;
- (FCA 34 - 38 - 44 - 64 - 84 - 124) 1/2"Gas female hot/cold
battery attachment with flat flange vent and gaskets;
Use the gaskets supplied with the unit in connecting the
system to the unit.
In the four pipe version of the unit, it is essential to install
the accessory VHA1 valve. For this purpose use the supplied
gaskets, the accessory has gaskets for the connection of the
system.
Information for the correct installation of the VHA1 valve are
contained in the accessory's instructions.
The delivery and return pips must be equal, suitably scaled
and insulated to avoid heat dispersion and dripping during
cold functioning.
• C
ONDENSATE DRAINAGE CONNECTION
During cold functioning the internal unit removes humidity
from the air. The condensate water must be eliminated by lin-
king the proper drainage pipe attachment with outer diameter
of 16 mm to the condensate system drainage pipe.
To avoid unpleasant smells wafting up through the drainage
pipe, you are recommended to install an appropriate syphon.
The unit is fitted with a number of floating pump devices for
raising the condensate from the basin to the drainage con-
sisting of one electric cabinet, one electric pump with non-
return valve and floating cock with three-level sensors: ON,
OFF and Alarm.
The electrical supply to the floating pump device must never
be interrupted.
If the raising device is in alarm mode (when the level of the
basin reaches 16 mm), the flow of water in the battery is
interrupted, the ventilation remains on.
The basin is fitted with an overflow hole to ensure that the
condensate water runs off if the floating pump device is not
working. In this case dripping can be seen from the grille.
The pump allows a maximum 80 cm head from the level of
the suspended ceiling (fig. 12), if this height is not sufficient
an accessory device must be used.
You are advised to use rigid piping that is heat insulated to
avoid condensation on the outer surfaces.
• C
ONNECTION FOR THE INTAKE OF FRESH AIR FROM OUTSIDE
The unit can be connected to a fresh air intake duct through
the KFA flange accessory 100 mm in diameter, applied to the
vent (R fig 3-5).
See the "outside fresh air" chapter.
• C
ONNECTION FOR THE DELIVERY OF THE AIR TREATED TO AN ADJA
CENT ROOM
The unit may be connected to one or more ducts with diame-
ters of 100 mm (one for FCA 32/34 - 42/44 - 62/64 and two for
FCA 82/84 - 122/124) to send treated air through the circular
KFA flange accessory, applied to the vent (M fig. 3-5).
See the "DELIVERY OF AIR TREATED IN ADJACENT ROOM"
chapter.
INSTALLATION OF THE UNIT
The FCA fan coils product range is produced in two sizes,
identifiable by the presence of one or more motion fans,
the versions with twin fans in comparison to single fans
are double in size, and the preloaded filters, the conve-
yor components, the installation brackets, the screws, the
catches, and hooks are provided in a double quantity in
comparison to the single version, therefore the assembly
and dismantling operations must be repeated twice for
each element.
Proceed as follows to install the unit:
- Open the machine's cardboard packaging, remove the
upper part of the packaging material used to protect the
unit during transport.
- Lift the unit carefully.
Do not handle the unit through plumbing connections but
use the appropriate brackets (fig. 8).
- For the double FCA only: fit the four installation supports
at the base of the unit. (fig. 9)
- If it is necessary to fit any kit (electrical resistors, fresh air
kit or delivery to an adjacent room) do these operations
-
