the cowl and the fuselage in such a way that they end up exactly in the centre of the
thickness of the nose bulkhead.
Inject a little white glue into the holes in the nose bulkhead before you fit the cowl
retaining screws.
The two pilot's seats, the instrument console and the instrument panel should be
glued in the cockpit before the canopy is screwed to the fuselage top decking.
Screw the canopy to the fuselage top decking in such a way that it lines up flush with
the top decking at the rear.
Assembling the BO 209 MONSUN
Attach the flight battery to the mounting plate using a Velcro cable tie.
Balance the model correctly, then mark the position of the flight battery on the
mounting plate using a pencil. Always check that the transmitter throttle stick is at the
OFF end-point before you connect the speed controller to the flight battery.
The receiver can be mounted in the fuselage next to the elevator servo using double-
sided foam tape.
We suggest that you permanently connect two 100 mm extension leads to the
appropriate receiver sockets (2 and 5) to make it easier to connect the two aileron
servos when you rig the model.
Slide the wing joiner tube into the outer sleeve in the fuselage, so that an equal
amount projects on both sides. Slip the wing panels onto the joiner tube, and fit the
retaining screws through the tongues to attach the wing panels to the fuselage.
Don't over-tighten the screws; tighten them just to the point where the wings are held
securely against the fuselage.
Balancing the BO 209 MONSUN
Support the model on both sides of the fuselage at a point about 85 - 90 mm aft of
the wing root leading edge; this works best with the model held inverted. When the
CG position is correct, the model will balance level, with the nose inclined slightly
down. If necessary you can correct the CG by adjusting the position of the flight
battery (preferable) or by adding nose or tail ballast. Before the first flight check that
all the control surfaces are exactly at centre (neutral setting) with the transmitter trims
central.
Control surface travels for normal flying
Ailerons
14 mm up, 14 mm down
Elevator
13 mm up, 13 mm down
Rudder
30 mm right, 30 mm left
We recommend that you set 20% exponential travel (Expo) on all the flying controls
at the transmitter.
