INSTALLATION
;
Installation of the Offset Locking Jib Boom must be supervised by a Qualified Person. The installation must be certified by
a Competent Person
as meeting the criteria for a Certified Anchorage, or that it is capable of supporting the potential forces
1
that could be encountered during a fall.
3.1
PLANNING: Plan your fall protection system prior to installation of the OL Jib Boom. Account for all factors that may
affect your safety before, during and after a fall. Consider all requirements, limitations and specifications defined in
Section 2 and Table 1.
3.2
INSTALLING THE OffSET LOckING JIb bOOm: The OL Jib Boom may be installed on vertical structures meeting
the requirements specified in Table 1. Figures 7 through 10 illustrate installation of the OL Jib Boom. To install the
OL Jib Boom:
Step 1 - Attach the Rotation clamp to the OL Jib boom (figure 7):
1.
Align the hole in the OL Jib Boom upper arm with the holes in both brackets of the Rotation Clamp (A).
2.
Align two brass washers (E) above and below the hole in the upper arm of the OL Jib Boom. Place a third brass
washer above the upper bracket of the Rotation Clamp and another washer below the lower bracket.
3.
Insert the locking bolt (F) through the washers placed above and below the brackets of the Rotation Clamp.
4.
Thread a single nut (G) on the end of the locking bolt and tighten to 130 ft-lbs (176 N-m).
Step 2 - Attach the Locking clamp to the OL Jib boom (figure 7):
1.
Align the hole in the OL Jib Boom lower arm with the holes in both brackets of the Locking Clamp (B).
2.
Align two brass washers (H) above and below the hole in the lower arm of the OL Jib Boom. Place a third brass
washer above the upper bracket of the Locking Clamp and another washer below the gear plate of the Locking Clamp.
3.
Insert the locking bolt (I) through the washers placed above and below the brackets of the Locking Clamp.
4.
Thread a single nut (J) on the end of the locking bolt and tighten to 130 ft-lbs (176 N-m).
(Optional) Removing the Rotational Lock (figure 8): The Rotational Locking Mechanism (K) and Pull Cord (L) may
be removed. This will allow the OL Jib Boom to rotate freely from side to side within the rotation established during Step 3
and Step 4 below.
;
If the Rotation Lock is removed, the OL Jib Boom will be free to rotate while in use. The user must work directly
below the anchorage point to prevent uncontrolled movement of the OL Jib Boom. Uncontrolled movement could result
in serious injury or death.
Step 3 - Attach the Rotation and Locking clamps to the Existing Structure (figure 9):
1.
Determine positioning of the OL Jib Boom on the existing vertical structure needed to provide the necessary height of
the OL Jib Boom above the work area.
2.
Insert threaded rods (D) through each corner of the Rotation and Locking Clamps as well as through the clamp
weldments (C).
3.
Place flat washers (B) over the ends of the threaded rods and secure rod ends with one lock nut (A) each. Tighten
lock nuts to 130 ft-lbs (176 N-m).
Step 4 - (Optional) Limit the Arc of the OL Jib boom (figure 10): The rotation arc of the OL Jib Boom may be
limited to 90 degrees, left or right, by installing a stop pin in the Locking Clamp.
1.
Insert the stop pin (A) through washer (B) and sleeve (C) placed over the Locking Clamp's gear plate (D). Secure the
stop pin with another washer (E) and lock nut (F). Tighten the lock to 130 ft-lbs (176 N-m).

USE
4.1
bEfORE EAcH USE: Verify that your work area and Fall Protection system meet all criteria defined in these instructions.
Verify that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the system per the 'User' inspection points defined in the "Inspection
and Maintenance Log". If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if there is any doubt about its condition
for safe use, remove the system from service immediately. Clearly tag the system "DO NOT USE". See Section 5 for more
information.
4.2
POSITIONING THE JIb bOOm: See Figure 2. The OL Jib Boom can be pivoted within the rotation arc established during
installation. Pull down on the Pull Rope (E) to unlock the OL Jib Boom and allow it to pivot. Release the Pull Rope to lock
the OL Jib Boom in the new position.
4.3
fALL ARREST cONNEcTIONS: Figure 11 illustrates application of the OL Jib Boom and its Fall Arrest Connections. The
Offset Locking Jib Boom must always be used with a Full Body Harness and Fall Arrest subsystem.
;
When transferring between Self-Retracting Devices (SRDs), always maintain 100% tie-off to ensure fall arrest
protection in the event of a fall.
1 Competent Person:
One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are
unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
