10. USE AND SETTINGS

10.1 Probe contact

The measurement tolerance directly depends on the contact quality of the
measuring insert with the part to be tested (probe contact). The instrument
provides all the elements required for optimum probe contact.
Probe contact indicator
The probe contact zone (1) is shown at the left-hand side of the measured
value.
Whenever the probe contact zone is exceeded, the display indicates -.- - -
and an acoustic signal will sound for as long as the indicator remains outsi-
de of the probe contact zone. Reduce the preliminary tension of the probe.
Probe contact direction indicators
In addition to the acoustic signal, the measurement is also confirmed vi-
sually by the probe contact direction indicators (2) and the probe contact
symbol (3).
Acoustic signal
As soon as the correct measurement force has been reached, an acoustic
signal confirms that the measured value has been captured.

10.2 Measurements with and without air-cushioned movement

The operation of the instrument is facilitated by selecting the option of
air-cushioned movement on a measurement plate. By activating air-cus-
hioned movement, the instrument is raised by a few µm. The air cushion
cannot only be activated for moving the instrument but also while taking a
measurement (e. g. diameter). This is particularly useful for measurements
involving heavy industry parts. Small parts can be moved at random without
having to activate air-cushioned movement for the instrument. This increa-
ses the autonomy of the instruments
The air-cushion intensity can be adjusted in the configuration menu (Chap-
ter 9). It should be set to the lowest possible value so as to reduce the effect
it could have on the measurement.
