Application
The functional unit SELM 611‑... for
Siedle Steel is part of a no‑contact
access control system which can
be optionally used in stand‑alone
mode or in conjunction with the
entrance controller EC 602‑... at the
Siedle Vario bus.
The functional unit electronic key
reading module SELM 611‑... is
referred to as ELM in the following.
It is possible to read in one or more
users at different ELM devices. The
ELM comes with one EKC 601‑...,
for use as for example a master card.
For actuation of, for example, a door
release, a potential‑free contact is
available at the ELM in stand‑alone
mode. (Closing time fixed at 3 sec‑
onds)
In bus mode, the ELM is used as a
reading unit. An entrance controller
EC 602‑... is required at the Vario
bus for management of users and
for actuating the outputs. In this
mode, up to 899 users are managed.
Using the entrance controller exten‑
sion ECE 602‑..., a total of 8 control
outputs are available.
Electrical voltage
Mounting, installation and servicing
work on electrical devices may only
be performed by a suitably qualified
electrician.
The unit can be operated in the fol‑
lowing countries:
AT, BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, GB,
GR, IT, IS, NL, NO, PT, SE.

Remark relating to the declara-
tion of conformity
We, S. Siedle & Söhne hereby
declare that this device is in agree‑
ment with the underlying require‑
ments and other relevant stipula‑
tions of the 1999/5/U directive. The
declaration of conformity can be
accessed in the download sector of
the internet address
www.siedle.com.
Installation
Range
The conductor network laid
throughout the entire Vario bus
must not exceed 2000 m. The loop
resistance (forward and return line
between the functional unit and
the control unit) must not exceed
20 Ohm.
A core diameter of 0.8 mm results in
a range of appr. 250 m. The power
supply to the Vario Bus components
is provided by a separate transformer
TR 602‑...
Steps must be taken to ensure that
the supply voltage never exceeds
9 V AC at any device with maximum
current consumption.
In conjunction with Siedle door com‑
munication systems, certain ranges
must be observed between the
door loudspeaker and line rectifier/
between the door loudspeaker and
the in‑house telephone. For more
information on this subject, see the
Planning and Installation Guidelines
for Door and In‑house Telephone
Communication.
Conductor material

Conductor routing
In order to comply with the general
safety regulations for telecom‑
munication systems in accordance
with VDE 0100 and VDE 0800, and
to prevent electrical interference,
ensure separate routing of heavy
and light current conductors. A dis‑
tance of 10 cm must be adhered to.

Circuit diagrams are provided in the
relevant system manuals. These are
enclosed with the line rectifier/server.
Operation
For reading in, the EK 601‑.../
EKC 601‑... is held up to the ELM.
The scanning distance between
ELM and EK 611‑... is max. 25 mm,
between ELM and EKC 611‑... max.
80 mm. Optimum recognition of
the EK/EKC 611‑... takes place if as
much of the flat surface is moved
past the ELM as possible. On the
right next to the key symbol of the
ELM are two LEDs which provide
information on the operating status
and functional characteristics of the
ELM.
