4.14 GEARSHIFT (GABBIANO ONLY)

The machine is equipped with central single speed gearbox (1
fi g.53) and two lateral four speed gearboxes (2 fi g.53) with one pair
of gears. A variety of rotation speeds of the rotor can be obtained
so that the needs of the operator can be better met.
It is very useful for land which is uneven in that it makes rotary hoe-
ing easy and at the same time allows the tractor to be maintained
at a constant speed.
To change tiller speed you must:
1) Remove the rear grid of the gearbox by unscrewing the fi xing
bolts.(1-2-3 fi g.54)
CAUTION
Watch out: oil will come out.
2) Remove the two gears from the shafts and replace them with
the new couple.
The name-plate on the cover gives the number of teeth of the gear
pair originally installed by the Manufacturer, furthermore, as on
Technical Data of this handbook, there are the speeds pertainig to
the pairs of gears monuted on purchase, plus of the spare pairs.
CAUTION
Be very careful and ensure to use the right gears, since some
gear pairs cannot be inverted, and gears from different pairs
cannot be interchanged.
Strictly comply whith the pairs of gears indicated, in the chart
on Technical Data.
It is compulsory to use the same pairs of gears in the side
four speed gearboxes.

4.15 SIDE GUARDS

The machine is equipped with dampened guards the lower end of
which can be adjusted in height to compensate for tool wear.(fi g.57)
To move to the new position, just unscrew the fi xing screws, move
the mobile part to the required position and then fi x the screws
back in place (1 fi g.56).
If the extent of fl exibility must be varied, tighten the screws (1 fi g.57)
and make sure that the spring is not less than 95 mm in size.
To obtain a good leveling of the ground on either sides of the ma-
chine, place the side protections at the same height of the drum of
the roller in work.(fi g.55)

4.16 IN WORK

Begin work with the pto at running rate, gradually digging the ma-
chine into the soil. Avoid depressing the accelerator pedal to an
excessive extent when the pto is engaged.
This could cause serious damage to both the machine and the
tractor.
To choose the best soil working degree, it will be necessary to
consider certain factors, i.e.:
- the nature of the soil (medium texture - sandy - clayey, etc.);
- the work depth;
- the advancement speed of the tractor;
- optimum machine adjustment.
A through crumbling of the soil is obtained with a low forward
speed of the tractor; the crumbling effect is reduced by increasing
the speed.
