6.2. Recommendations for positioning the sensors

If you wish to carry out rigorous monitoring of the production of the PV plant, it is necessary to follow the
instructions below when installing the sensors in order to achieve the most reliable readings.
The readings taken are for informative purposes only. Ingeteam does not take any responsibility for the
consequences arising from inaccurate readings.
General recommendations
The electrical signals of the sensors have a relatively low amplitude, thus they are very vulnerable in
electromagnetically-noisy environments if you do not take the appropriate measures. Therefore, shielded cables
must be used.
The wiring between the INGECON SUN ComBox and the sensors must be threaded through different ducts to those
used for wiring the direct current of the panels.
Radiation sensors
It is recommended that you use a PV-type radiation sensor with as similar specification as possible to the panels
installed.
The positioning of these sensors is a very important factor when it comes to obtaining reliable readings. Poor
placement can cause doubt regarding the correct operation of the units.
Of utmost importance when positioning these sensors is as follows:
• The sensor cell is on the same level as the PV module. A small deviation of the sensor can cause reading
errors when carrying out comparisons of the production of the panel.
• In rooftop installations, place the sensor where it is not covered by shadow before or after the panels
are covered, and making sure it does not cast shadow on the panels. If the panels have a wide surface area,
it is recommended to install more than one sensor in order to obtain more data from different points of the
installation.
