Verification of the Gyro Function
• Take the gyro into operation in AVCS mode. No tail mixers may be programmed at the transmitter and the control lever for
the tail function and the associated trim slider must be in the centre positions.
• Set the required servo type (analogue/digital servo) at the gyro in the programming mode.
• Connect the tail servo and attach the servo lever at a 90° angle to the linkage rods.
• Test the running direction for the tail control. If the servo runs in the wrong direction, change the tails servo running
direction at the transmitter.
• Set the correct deflection values at the transmitter for the tail servo. The maximum control path at the transmitter must
be available without causing mechanical stop of the servo lever by the linkage in case of full deflection. The maximum
servo path at the gyro must not be limited.
• Then check the effective direction of the gyro. Turning the helicopter counterclockwise around the main rotor shaft when
viewed from above, the gyro must deflect the tail servo in the same direction as if you had steered to the left at the
transmitter. If the servo runs in the wrong direction, set the correct tail servo running direction and the gyro in programming
mode.
• If required, set the max. servo deflections at the gyro in programming mode.
Checking the Gyro Function in Flight
• First start the remote control, then the model with the gyro.
• Set gyro sensitivity to 65 – 70%.
Attention, important!
If you carry the helicopter from the preparation room to the starting site and align the tailboom in a different
direction, in the process, you have to initialise the gyro again.
For this, move the tail control lever at the transmitter back and forth quickly 4 x. Then the tail servo will return to
the middle position. This should generally be done before any start.
• If, for example, the trimming was misadjusted during initialisation, the trimming can be returned to the centre position.
Then move the slider for gyro sensitivity back and forth quickly 3 x. It has to be in the AVCS mode in the end. This saves
the current lever position (incl. trimming) as new neutral position.
• Let the rotor start up and slowly increase the speed. The helicopter must not lift off yet.
• If the model starts growing „light", check the tail rotor function.
• If the tail rotor control works properly, let the helicopter lift off and check the gyro function.
If the tail moves back and forth quickly all the time, the gyro sensitivity is set too high. In this case, reduce the gyro
sensitivity or reduce the distance „A" at the tail servo lever (see figure 3).
If the tail turns away in fast pitch changes, the gyro sensitivity is too low. In this case, increase the gyro sensitivity or
increase the distance „A" at the tail servo lever (see figure 3).
