15.2 Cleaning the inside of the hearth
Before performing any maintenance operation, take the following precautions:
Make sure thee grid (A) (Fig. 4.2a) is free from any combustion residues as they may obstruct the free passage of air.
Remove it and clean the furnace using a hand brush (not supplied) conveying the combustion residues in the ash drawer.
Pay attention to any burning embers (Fig. 4.2a).
Remove the ash pan from the base and remove any ash that has deposited in the compartments below (Fig. 4.2b).
Using an ash vacuum can simplify the final cleaning operations of the fire-box (Fig. 4.2c).
Attention: the ash pan below the hearth must be emptied out every day. the ash must not reach the top, as this may cause
the overheating of the cast iron grate of the fire-box and prevent the passage of air to the fire box.
The refractory bricks undergo expansion deformations during the operation of the appliance, due to the high temperatures
reached. For this reason the slots open between one piece and another of the refractory bricks should be considered normal.
During combustion these slots are filled from the ashes which absorb the expansions of the refractory bricks.
