8. Charging the drive batteries

Observe chapters 6 and 7. Numerous hazards are associated with improper handling of the lithium-ion
batteries and the battery charger.
Only use the supplied power adapter for the voltage/power supply to the battery charger.
Only charge the supplied lithium-ion drive batteries with the supplied battery charger. Never use a different
battery charger as this can result in a fire or explosion of the drive batteries.
Never leave the batteries to charge unsupervised.
Charging partially discharged lithium-ion batteries does not pose any problems, a prior discharge is not
required. Ensure, however, that the batteries are regularly discharged and then fully charged again in order
for them to achieve their full performance.
The batteries must be allowed to cool to room temperature after driving the vehicle before charging. The
same applies after charging. Use the batteries in the vehicle only when they have cooled sufficiently.
The battery charger and batteries become hot during the charging process. Never cover the battery charg-
er or the batteries. Do not expose the battery charger or battery to extremely high/low temperatures or
direct sunlight.
The supplied lithium-ion batteries are supplied uncharged and must be charged. Before the batteries can
deliver their maximum power, several complete discharge and charge cycles are required.
Charge the batteries regularly (approx. once every 2 - 3 months) to prevent them from undergoing deep
discharge. This may result in permanent damage and render the batteries useless.
• First, connect the round connector of the power adapter to the appropriate round socket on the battery charger.
• Plug the power adapter into a proper mains outlet of the public power supply grid (wall socket). The two LEDs on
the charging bays begin to flash green (no batteries inserted).
• Insert the two lithium-ion batteries into the battery charger. The battery charger has two charging bays that are
functionally identical but which operate independently of one another. Please observe the correct polarity (note
positive/+ and negative/-). The polarity is indicated in the charging bays and on the batteries.
One LED on each charging bay indicates the charging process.
LED lights up red: Battery is charging
LED lights up orange/amber: Battery is charging, battery is nearly full
LED lights up green: Charging process complete
• Remove the batteries from the battery charger when the charging process is complete and the LEDs are green. The
charging process to charge a fully discharged battery can last up to 3.5 hours.
• Unplug the power adapter from the mains socket if you no longer need to use the battery charger.
• If the vehicle is not being operated and the batteries have been removed from the vehicle, the batteries must be
stored in a suitable place out of the reach of children. Protect the battery contacts from short circuit as there is a risk
of fire and explosion. The same applies to mechanical damage to the batteries or in the event of high temperatures
(e.g. close a heater or in direct sunlight).
