LATERAL TRANSFER
Lateral transfer with MaxiTube
(8 Steps)
1. Place the receiving surface close to the transfer
surface and lock the castors. Make sure the
receiving surface is slightly lower than the transfer
surface.
2. Make sure that the castors of both transfer
surfaces are solidly locked.
3. Adjust the bed into an appropriate height for the
caregivers, avoiding the need to overstretch.
4. (Caregiver C) Place your hands on the patient's
shoulder and thigh to distribute pressure
5. (Caregiver C) Initiate the transfer by slowly

pushing the patient away from you, using your

body weight. (See Figure 13) Take care not to
overstretch.
6. (Caregivers A and B) Secure the transfer by
standing on the receiving side.
7. Make sure that the head of the patient slides
along safely and comfortably.
8. Remove the sliding sheets according to approved
removal techniques.

6. (Caregivers A and B) Simultaneously pull the
draw sheet and secure the transfer by standing at
the receiving side. (See Figure 14)
7. Make sure that the head of the patient slides
along safely and comfortably.
8. Remove the sliding sheets according to approved
removal techniques.
