THERMOMARK
THERMOPLASTIC TEMPERATURE READINGS
The ThermoMark 300 Handliner is equipped with a
thermometer.
However, the user should be aware of a
temperature differential between the display and the actual
temperature of the thermoplastic.
The difference between the gauge reading and
the actual temperature of the thermoplastic can
be as much as 50ºF (10ºC)
Attention
Two separate conditions will cause the display reading to be
either above or below the actual thermoplastic temperature.
1. Heat up phase
During this phase the wall temperature of the material
tank will heat faster than the thermoplastic within
the tank. Therefore, the thermometer display will rise
above true material temperature. This condition is not
considered dangerous.
2. Depleted material tank
In this circumstance the material temperature probe
is dependent on reading tank wall temperature or air
temperature within the tank, which is generally lower
than the thermoplastic. This condition could allow the
burner to cycle and overheat the thermoplastic.
Excessive thermoplastic temperature can cause
the material to flash.
In either case, in order to obtain an accurate thermoplastic
temperature reading, a separate temperature gauge, such as an
infrared thermometer, should be used to take a direct reading
of the thermoplastic.
APPLICATION DIES
The application dies for this unit are precision-built to provide
maximum performance to ensure clean, crisp markings. It is
recommended that each die be visually inspected prior to use.
The overall condition of the die is very important. It should
be relatively clean from prior use with only a thin coating
of plastic on it.
The die should not be bent or show signs of being warped
due to overheating. If there is plastic on the springs, they
should be replaced.
Inspect the carbide wear points at the four corners on
the bottom of the die. If carbides are worn or damaged,
replace the entire side runner.
Check mil thickness capability by measuring the step on
the screed bar. The measurement should read .025 greater
than the desired line thickness to allow for plastic shrinkage
after cooling.
