Find a Scene from a DVD Digest
DIGEST Button
With a video disc inserted, the RDV-1080 can
display thumbnail images of the opening scenes
from each Title or Chapter on a DVD Video
disc or each Track on a Video CD/SVCD disc.
You can then play the desired scene by se-
lecting its thumbnail image.
: The digest feature is available on DVD
NOTE
Video discs during playback or when they
are stopped. It is available on Video CD/
SVCD discs when they are stopped or dur-
ing non-PBC playback.
To use the digest feature:
• Press the DIGEST button on the remote.
Thumbnail images of up to nine scenes are
displayed on the TV screen. One scene will
be highlighted with a heavy border.
: The specific scenes shown varies with

the disc, its contents, and whether the player
is stopped or playing. While a DVD Video
disc is stopped, the opening scene of each
Title is shown. When a DVD Video disc is
playing, the opening scene of each Chapter
in the current Title is shown. With a Video
CD/SVCD disc (stopped or playing), the
opening scene from each Track is shown.
• Press the CURSOR

If more than one page of nine thumbnails
is available, pressing a CURSOR

lighted will jump to the next page of thumb-

ON-SCREEN Button
While playing a DVD disc, you can search
for a specific Chapter (on a DVD Video disc)
or Track (on a DVD Audio disc with pictures)
using the On-Screen Display.
• Press the ON-SCREEN button to show the
DVD CONTROL screen. The screen will
appear slightly different for DVD Video and
DVD Audio discs.
• Use the CURSOR
over the CHAP. SEARCH field (for a DVD
Video disc) or the TRACK SEARCH field
(for a DVD Audio disc).
• Use the NUMERIC buttons (0–9) to enter
the desired Chapter or Track number. The
selected number appears in the message
box at the bottom of the screen

Find a Location on the Disc
with Time Search
You can play from a desired location by speci-
fying the elapsed time from the beginning of
the current Title (for DVD Video), the current
Group (for DVD Audio), or the disc (for Au-
dio CD/Video CD/SVCD) using the TIME
SEARCH function.
• Press the ON-SCREEN button to show the
DVD CONTROL screen. The screen will
appear slightly different for each kind of
disc, but the procedure is the same.
• Use the CURSOR
buttons to move the
over the TIME SEARCH field as shown
above (it may be in a different position).
• Using the NUMERIC buttons (0–9) to en-
ter the desired elapsed time in the message
box on the screen. Enter hours/minutes/
seconds for DVD discs and minutes/sec-
onds for Audio and Video CDs. It is not
necessary to enter trailing zeros; blank
characters are assumed to be zeros.
Examples: To enter 2 hours, 15 minutes,
and 45 seconds, press: 2

• If you make a mistake, press CURSOR
to select the incorrect entry and reenter.
• Press the ENTER button to confirm the se-
lection and begin playback at that point.
• Press the ON-SCREEN button to close the
display without making a selection.
