Installation Instructions:
Electrical System for Towing Hitch
Installing the electrical kit
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. If necessary, remove the following covers and trims:
In the luggage compartment
Cover of the luggage compartment floor
-
Loading sill cover
-
Trim on the left side of luggage compartment
-
Trim underneath the parcel shelf
-
3. Make a small hole in the vehicle's grommet (Fig. 1/2).
4. Run the socket end of the wiring harness through this hole and outside to the socket retaining
plate (Fig. 1/1).

5. Pull the supplied socket seal over the wiring harness.
6. Connect the remaining individual cables to the contact supports according to the socket
allocation (Table 1), clip into the socket housing and push the rubber seal onto the socket.
7. Use the screws supplied to screw the socket onto the retaining plate (Fig. 1/1); max. torque =
2.0 Nm.
8. Fasten the wiring harness along the towing hitch or the existing wiring harness using cable
ties.
Note
Correctly seal the hole made in the grommet (Fig. 1/2) against moisture using the
supplied sealant first and then the VW no. 103 113 01 adhesive tape!
Installing the electrical kit
9. Mount the trailer connection unit in the intended position (Fig. 1/4) above the relay housing
(Fig. 1/5).
10. Connect the red 12-pin socket housing and the black 16-pin socket housing to the intended
slots on the trailer connection unit and lock in place.
11. Connect the brown wires with the ring eyes to the vehicle's earthing point (Fig. 1/3).
12. Route the wiring harness with the red wires to the fuse box holder (Fig. 1/5). Unscrew 3
screws on the front plate, pull out the fuse box holder and open the secondary interlocks.
13. Connect the red/black wire to fuse slot 9, the red/blue wire to fuse slot 13 and the red wire to
fuse slot 28.
14. Fuse slot 20 already occupied: Remove the existing fuse from fuse slot 20, remove the fuse-
protected wire from chamber A30 (KI.15) and insert it into the 1-pin housing on the wiring
harness. Insert the single black/blue wire from the wiring harness into chamber 20 on the fuse
box holder. Now plug the open 1-pin housings together. Replace the fuse previously
removed.
