Destination and use
The wireless switches of series RF ... M30 SW868/SW915 comply with
the European standards on radio equipment and telecommunications
terminal equipment 1999/5/EC. The RF ... M30 SW868/SW915 consists
mainly of three parts. The power supply is provided by a not recharge-
able lithium battery CR2032 with a nominal capacity of 240 mAh.
Please observe that the isolator must be removed or the battery must
be inserted before installation. Each switching process activates a
wireless transmission. The battery status is transmitted with each
transmission. The transmission is carried out at a frequency of 868.3
MHz or 915 MHz. It is possible to transmit a status signal independent
from a switching signal that transmits the current switching state. By
default this time is not set. The receiver must conform to the sWave ®
protocol of the steute modules.
Design of sensing range
Because radio signals are electromagnetic waves the signal is attenu-
ated on its way from the transmitter to the receiver. This means the
electrical as well as the magnetic field strengths decrease and in fact
inversely proportional to the squared distance of transmitter and re-
ceiver (E,H~1/r²). In addition to this natural restriction of the sensing
range further interference factors occur: Metal parts, e. g. armours in
walls, metal foils of thermal insulations or vapour deposited metal
layer heat protection glass reflect electromagnetic waves. Therefore a
socalled deadspot can be found behind them. Indeed radio waves are
able to penetrate walls but the attenuation increases even more than
in the free field. Penetration of radio waves:
wood, gypsum, glas uncoated
brick stone, press boards
armoured concrete
metal, aluminium lamination
sight connection in free field
Mounting Notes
The wireless switch can be fixed to a suitable medium and a through-
hole with two nuts. The material should not be ferromagnetic. In spe-
cial cases a functional test must be performed. The actuator should be
mounted at a minimum distance of 8 mm to ferromagnetic material. In
special cases a functional test must also be performed. Though the
threaded wireless switch looks like a bolt, only low tightening torques
may be applied. Because the sensor part is sensitive to strikes the
front may not be used as an end stop. The radio switch must installed

according to the mounting and wiring instructions of the receiver. The
sensing range accordingly depends on the local conditions. Thus the
radio signal can be strongly affected by conductive materials. This also
includes thin foils, e.g. aluminium laminations on insulation materials.
A test with the field strength indicator swView 868, material No.
1190393 or swView 915 material No. 1221794 should be carried out.
Typical sensing ranges are:
Sight connection outside: approx. 450 m
Sight connection inside: approx. 50 m
Notices
The processing of one switching command from transmitter to receiv-
er lasts approx. 80 to 100 ms on basis of the sWave® data transmis-
sion. The sensor can be actuated with a maximum frequency of 5 Hz.
The devices can be operated registration- and license-free on the ter-
ritory of the EC, Switzerland and Cyprus. The use in other countries
must be explicitely clarified! Subject to technical modifications. Re-
construction and alterations at the switch are not allowed. Moreover
steute does not assume any lia-bility for recommendations made or
implied by this description. From this description new claims for guar-
antee, warranty or liability cannot be derived beyond the general terms
and conditions of delivery.
Safety Notes
The electrical connection may only be carried out by authorised per-
sonnel. The radio receiver must not be used in connection with devices
that may directly or indirectly serve health- or life-saving purposes or
cause hazards by operation to human beings, animals or asset values.
Maintenance
With rough conditions, we recommend routine maintenance
as follows:
1. Remove all dirt or particles.
2. may only be cleaned with a moist clothes.
3. Replacement of battery: The battery may be replaced by the opera-
tor.
Battery replacement
To replace the battery the hexagon socket screw must be loosened by
the provided Allen key size 1.5 mm. After this remove the cover by
pulling the antenna with the connected circuit-board.
