INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing a high quality silicone liner from Össur. We can
assure you that you have made the right choice. Please carefully review
and follow these instructions before fitting a patient with the liner or
accessory products. Remember that informing the patient concerning
proper handling and care of the liner, as set forth in these instructions, is
important to achieve patient comfort and maximum product life.
Indication and contraindication for use
The Seal-In X prosthetic liner is a suspension device for below knee
amputees, where passive or active vacuum is used to suspend the
residual limb to the prosthetic leg.
Extremely conical or short residual limbs can prohibit suspension with
Seal-In liners. An assessment of suspension reliability shall be conducted
with each fitting.
PRODUCT SELECTION AND FITTING
Liner sizing (Figure 1)
To determine the correct Iceross size:
1. Measure the circumference of the residual limb at 4cm from the distal
end.
2. Choose the Iceross size, which corresponds to the measurement or
which, is immediately below the indicated measurement.
3. Never choose a liner size, which exceeds the measurement, or round
up.
EXAMPLE: If the residual limb measures 24,5cm at the indicated
location, choose Iceross size 23,5 NOT size 25.
Selecting the correct size is very important. If the liner is too tight, this
may cause pistoning and/or numbness and blistering. If the liner is too
loose, increased perspiration and/or movement of the limb inside the
liner may occur. Perspiration and movement can lead to blisters and
rashes. If any of the above symptoms or any other indication of improper
fit are noted, the user should be instructed to contact his/her physician
or prosthetist immediately.
SEAL-IN RING SIZING (Figure 2)
To determine the correct Seal-In Ring size:
1. Correct Ring size is commonly 2 to 3 sizes above liner size in cm,
accurate sizing is to be determined by actual fitting.
2. Place Seal-In Ring at desired location on top of liner, making sure its
silicone portion will become completely hidden within the socket
(Figure 3).
3. Assess deformation of Ring and residual limb, Ring should sit
securely in place without excessive compression (Figure 2).
4. If Ring does not fit at the desired location, choose another size or
relocate to obtain proper tightness.
EXAMPLE: Seal-In ring sizes 28 and 30 commonly fits liner size 25.
Selecting the correct Seal-In Ring size is very important. Incorrect Ring
size may result in potential loss of suspension and patient discomfort.
